Universal credit help

Hello I would appreciate some help.
I am currently on Tax credits, my entitlement is decent at £247 per week for 3 children and one in childcare costing £50 per week.
I have been head hunted for a new job which is a large jump in wage, between 10-12k a year so roughly 27k.
I did an entitled to calculation and it calculated that the difference between tax credits and UC was massive -£105 per week!
This would mean that accepting this position would give me £50 extra per month although I’d be spending that on fuel.
Is this calculation likely right and if I was to make a change in my yearly wage they would move me over to Universal Credit?

Having an increase in wages would not mean you would need to make a claim for UC. You just need to update tax credits.
  • Thank you, I expected it to go down obviously including if I was on tax credits also but even at that wage the difference between tax credits and universal credit is massive.... such a large amount to lose each month.
  • Do not go to universal if you are getting tax credits

Whilst UC doesn't suit everyone, some people are better off on this than they were on tax credits.

But you are not losing anything, as your wages increase, any benefit you are receiving decrease, so it balances out, thats how the benefit system works.

Indeed and the benefits go down less than the wages increase so there is a net gain.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
