I had a 4KW solar system installed 10 years ago, it is working well. The question i have, is i was one of the last very lucky ones to get on the very high Feed in Tariff, which gives me approx 0.53p/KwH for 50% of the Electricity i generate & 0.56p/KwH for the other 50%, so as you can see i am on a good thing. However my Energy company EDF are saying they are now ready to fit a smart meter to my home but this will affect my feed in tariff. But they cant tell me how, does anybody have any idea how it will affect things? Will the rates change etc. I do have the option to refuse the Smart meter.
Thanks in advance

The FIT rates will not change. However, your supplier might suggest that you are only paid for your actual export rather than the 50% deemed figure. For export to be used in this way, your meter will need an export MPAN.0

The FIT is based on how much you generate, as given by your generation meter. You also get a small amount for exported electricity. This is currently a "deemed" 50% of what you generate. But it can be measured properly by a smart meter, so you'd get paid for what you actually export. These will be itemised separately on your FIT statements. The FIT will be the much bigger sum.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
