How to buy one-off shares of any company without being tied to a broker

Hi all,

I wondered if there is a way of making a one-off purchase of shares from a company without being tied into an account or broker.

Every now and then I get a small bonus which I would like to use to buy a small amount of shares. The amount obviously would be dependant on the share value and company. I would like to do this online if possible and this might be a once a year experience. Is there a way I can do this, or do I have to use and contribute to a broker?

In basic, I just want to buy a one-off purchase of shares of any company, when I have some spare cash.

Thanks for any insights or information in advance.

Holding shares in paper certificate form will add considerable costs. Better to open a fee free brokerage platform to trade and be the custodian of your holdings. No requirement to trade with any frequency either.

    Hi thanks for that.

Sounds roughly just what I need or that I am looking for.
Not sure how I would find one of these, but will try to look online if its possible.

Appreciate your help and thanks again
  • Any ideal guys/girls which is the best fee free brokerage platform to trade and be the custodian of your holdings?
I'm just looking to buy small amounts of shares whenever I can afford without having to pay monthly charges to have an account with a broker. My trades would be small and may be just once or twice a year. I just want access to buy online without fuss to be honest, the simpler the better.
  • iWeb charge you £100 to set up your account and then £5 per trade.

There is no monthly or annual fee.

X-O is no annual charge for a General Investment Account or an ISA.  Trades @ £5.95p.

Although worth noting that their ISA eventually has a £50+vat closure charge.
