Lieu of Notice / Cmpany Car

Options
Hi
Does anyone know or have expereince of being made redundant where I have been given 3-months salary in lieu of notice and so wondered whether I am by right allowed to keep my company car as my company has not offered any compensation for returning my car on 31st March instead of after the 3-month notice priod

  • If you are getting payment in lieu of notice then I assume your employment actually ends on 31st March? (as opposed to you remaining employed but on gardening leave or similar until the end of June).

Assuming the former, it depends entirely on your contract and the terms under which the company car was provided. Under some circumstances there may be a right to retain the car until the end of June (or more likely receive some financial compensation for the loss of that benefit). If you are still employed until the end of June then you would normally expect to continue to receive your other benefits but even that could depend on contractual terms.
  • Thanks a lot for the information
