Hi I have put a deposit down on some furniture in a local furniture shop I have paid £500 and the rest to pay is £4500 I have found somewhere else cheaper and have just asked to cancel my order and with the £500 deposit to pay for some items the furniture shop is refusing and is now saying I have to pay £1000 cancellation fee I haven’t signed a contract with them and I was given the terms and conditions after the transaction so was unaware of any fees is this allowed?

You don't have to sign anything to enter into a contract, however if you were not made aware of any cancellation fee then legally I doubt it can be enforced. Your deposit on the other hand is a different story.1
