Faulty LG Fridge Freezer. Identical replacement now £200 more than original!!

Our LG American style fridge freezer developed an on-going water leak. LG have agreed to pay for kitchen repair for the water damage and to refund the cost of the FF. We wanted a like for like replacement but were only offered a refund. The same FF is now £200 more than we originally paid. Can we insist on a like for like replacement or is it down to LG to decide whether to refund or provide a replacement?

  • A repair, replacement or refund is the retailer's choice - you can specify which you'd like, but ultimately the choice lies with them.
  • Did you buy it from LG?

There is no situation where you have a statutory right to demand a replacement... in certain circumstances you can demand a refund but even then the retailer can reduce the settlement to represent the use received after a certain amount of time.

If you didnt buy from LG and you are dealing with them as the UK Distributor/Manufacturer then you are down to Warranty T&Cs and not statutory righst.

    From a local retailer.

No, you can not insist, it is entirely at their discretion.

Then your consumer rights are with that retailer and not LG.
