Gratuitous care re personal injury claim

Is it right for my solicitor to deduct the PIP and IIDB benefits already paid to me since my accident (March 2017) from my gratuitous care claim amount ...I thought the GC amount was for my husband after all the care he provided for me, so why deduct 'my benefits' from it.
Did I read correctly somewhere, that it should be the defendant paying back any benefits to the DWP?
Many thanks in advance.

As is not unusual, the wording in the documents is not in clear and simple language. It's not until section 5 that it is apparent that the amount you will receive is reduced by the amount of DWP benefit payment that you have received. The person/organisation making the payment to the claimant do not repay the DWP benefit amount on top of the amount paid to the claimant. For example, a person awarded £10k compensation for injury has received £4k in DWP benefits. That £4k will be deducted from the payment made to the claimant who will then receive £6k. The £4k will go back to DWP.3
