FIDOR BANK

I have been set up with a savings account at this bank but they are asking for $13500 to convert it to a current account. When queried, they reduced it to $7500. Surely these figures aren't right? Has anyone had dealings with them?

  • Was this intended for a UK forum? I can see Fidor do have a UK site but you're talking about $ not £
  • It's an international online bank. I'm based in the UK but the bank deals with dollars. I just want to know if anyone has dealings with them and how things went. I feel like I'm being scammed by them

Setting up a current account should cost nothing. If you want a dollar current account, have a look at Fineco Bank. There is also Wise, though they don't have a deposit protection.
  • Are you 100% sure that you are dealing with the real Fidor Bank - a charge like that does seem to be very unusual.

As Notepad writes "are you sure you are dealing with the real Fidor Bank?"
    According to "Compare Banks":- https://www.comparebanks.co.uk/bank/fidor-bank/
Fidor current accounts are free to open. I do not know if they have saving accounts. They do have a savings bond, but it appears to get it you must already have their current account. Have a look at the terms and conditions of your savings account and see what they say.
  • Fidor Bank, UK closed it's business in September, 2019.
Fidor Bank, AG is base in Germany and offers digital current accounts - as far as I know, they don't offer savings accounts?
Alarm bells should be ringing if a bank is asking you to to "pay" to convert your account.... and even louder bells when they change the amount they charge.
I do hope  you have not deposited any funds in this account as it does sound like a scam from what you have described.... I would run an absolute mile!!
