We are after some plants/trees that will grow maybe 5ft or 6ft tall (or can be purchased that height already) but wont grow too wide (such as christmas tree shaped). We need them to obscure a gap about 4ft wide on the front fence where we can see the neighbours messy driveway every time we leave the house
Dont really want anything permanent, such as trellis or a taller fence panel, just something we can stand there in pots/planters to shield the view a little
Many thanks in advance everyone

I've got a prunus nigra that grows like that but it's deciduous as is the lilac.
I guess you'd need evergreen. One thing you'll need to do is partially sink the pots and stake into the ground or the wind will blow them over. Lost some expensive pots that way with smaller plants.
Also you'll need to water the pots daily in summer. I brought some plastic plumbing pipe, drilled holes randomly and sunk in pots so water would get to the bottom.
There are a lot of topiary plants around at the moment but pricy.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Pots require disciplined attention, especially when they have trees in them.
They also need to be far, far, larger than you think, a 5' tree has a substantial rootball and potting i into a 18" pot severely restricts its growth aswell as requiring diligent watering most of the year - usually the very reason trees in pots fail to thrive then get deemed as 'difficult' ......
Thuja 'Smaragd' is an interesting shape and easy height to maintain - worth some research.
Same for when you try and grow a climber like that, most especially clematis - grown in pots are guaranteed to fail every time unless you're a) using a pot that's at least 18" high/deep and the same wide and b) watering copiously (clematis are vines hence their high water need).1 -
Bamboo or willow? We have clump forming bamboo in pots, it grows quickly and is green all year but needs LOTS of water.
We also considered willow, it needs to be cut back periodically but grows again quickly. We went for bamboo because of it's evergreen qualities.2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30000 -
