O/S Daily Wednesday 24 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark and has become blustery from yesterday afternoon - it's forecast all day today, although mild.
DH getting ready for work, DS1 enjoying a lie-in, and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was jacket potato, gammon, chicken, pork pie, salad and coleslaw - lots of bits to use up which we did. Tonight will be beef stew, using up LO mash and yorkshires and will add some fresh/frozen veg.
Yesterday work was ok, still no news so still waiting to find out what's happening next, but expecting it to be into March. My last day this week, then on days' off - pleased about that.
Keep safe and well x

Think its raining out there but haven't looked yet

Big shout out to all the lovely staff and volunteers they were all beyond helpful
Back to usual today with nothing much in the plan. Might have a go at cleaning/decluttering the bedroom it certainly needs a good hoover.
Food today will be scampi and chips
Thoughts for all the poorly family members
Have a good day all

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It seems to be damp out there this morning - yesterday was a nice sunny day.I've got a hospital appointment this afternoon, at the breast clinic, it's five years since I had breast cancer surgery, so I've gone every year for routine check ups - if all's well this year it'll be my last time, and I've taken tablets for five years to help prevent a recurrence, and I'll finish those in the next few weeks. The clinic always seems to run late, but it doesn't matter, just have to sit there! We had afternoon tea yesterday, an early birthday present from DS and family, it was lovely, in fact there are still items in the fridge which we'll finish up today, we couldn't eat it all in one go.I managed to save some of the pretty card from the box it was delivered in so I'm making a thank you card for DS and Co out of that. Not a lot else happening today.Dumpling I'm sorry about your sister's diagnosis, how awful for her and her family. Once cancer is diagnosed the good old NHS swings into action quickly, hope they can help her.AOD, I hope you are more comfortable, and not in too much pain. Also sending thoughts to Ruby and family, and Marie..In fact, sending thought to everyone, hoping you all have as good a day as possible - take care folks.17

Morning All
Sorry to hear of your sister's diagnosis dumpling, hope she can be helped.
Hope you've had a better night AOD.
Missing your tales from the museum Gers!
Very blustery out this morning but dry for now. It rained hard all day yesterday and didn't seem to get light at all.
Nothing much to report, washing up to date, had a hoover round yesterday after I cleaned out the fire, may even throw the duster round later, we'll see!
Thinking of you Marie and glad you're getting out a bit Ruby.
Take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. As promised it feels very mild but sadly it's also mizzly drizzly. My hopes of giving the back garden a bit of a tidy and sort out came to nothing yesterday as, when I stepped outside, I was nearly blown off my feet by a force 10 gale . So plans were foiled.
Happy Birthday to SCARLET, have a good day but what a shame it also incorporates a hospital visit. I hope all goes well. DUMPLING I was so sorry to read your bad news about your sister. All is crossed that treatment will be able to go ahead. You must all be absolutely devastated.
Now rain has stopped play outside I think I may tackle the airing cupboard today. I hang on to stuff thinking it might come in but it never does so it's time all the surplus bed linen etc joined the rest of the stuff awaiting the opening of the charity shops. There is now an ever growing pile of bags and boxes cluttering up the small bedroom. It feels to have been there forever. DD told me a sort of local village Freecycle group has started up and she has managed to get rid of loads of redundant toys, books and games. I might have to consider that for suitable stuff.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad, worried or p***d off. AOD I hope you had a better night last night and felt a bit more comfortable. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"16 -
Morning folks.Happy Birthday Scarlett 🎂🎉 I hope you get pampered all day. Eat cake, drink fizz, after your check up!
Nelski - well done on getting your vaccination. It's very blustery outside, has been during the night too. Yesterday's rain was impressive, so much fell for most of the day.Camelot - funny you should mention the museum. DM wanted a piece of black card for her art work and knew where there was a piece. Cue her digging deep into a cupboard, one which I have avoided so far. There was a huge, and old, Pampers box. It was very tall with a handle and lid, I've no idea where she got it from. Inside were packets of saved pieces of coloured card and paper, wallpaper remnants, acetates and assorted other stuff from before the flood. We sat together as she handled every single thing, sighing about how lovely it was before agreeing to dispose of it. I'll offer the good bits to a crafty friend. I've sneaked out the shoe box full of used tissue paper. 😀 Couldn't bear to go through every piece of it.DM got very sad afterwards but I cheered her up by making her favourite fennel dish for lunch. The trouble is that she thinks of it all as some sort of treasure to be savoured rather than discarded. We even talked about that cupboard being like Tutankhamen's tomb! I may go back into it today for more digging around. I blame the war years when she was evacuated, taken away from all her possessions into a situation where there was very little of anything so what was got was very much treasured and saved. She told me about a time when one of the others she was with was having a birthday so they decided to save one of their daily sandwiches to have a midnight feast a week later. Savour and treasure, a sign of the times.Later on I put a couple of the ancient saucepans into the recycling bin. The non-stick coating is peeling off so I don't want to eat Teflon. I've ordered one new pan to replace them. Now it's time to stop waffling and get moving. My thoughts are with all those struggling or sad. Happy Wednesday to everyone.16 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Happy Birthday ScarletRibbons, hope it is a good day even if it does include the breastfeeding clinic
Dumpling, thinking of you and your sister.
I had a better night, thank you, wide awake by 3.30 but that was after a much better sleep and things are starting to feel a bit more comfortable. I can mostly get dressed by myself now but good job it is warming up because I can't do socks. Also I look like the Witch of Endor, I can't put my hair up.
It is blowing a gale outside and I was going to wash a load of towels but even though they would blow about, it feels damp and nicer weather is forecast at the end of the week so I'll wait.
Friend coming to coerce her knitting today, she won't be coming in though. Hope she doesn't get arrested. OH will collect the car either today or tomorrow and on Friday we all go for our jabs. Excitement of the week! We booked them together so we are at 10 minute intervals.
I hope everyone has a decent day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
Weather here is meant to be glorious but we shall see I have walked DD2's dog i say walked but its more she is dragging me my arms feet and legs are killing me still its all good exercise . i have my jab booked for Sunday I am so pleased DH had a shielding letter yesterday but no text for the jab he is 4 years older than me i did say its survival of the fittest LOL he is going to call the docs today to see when his is due i had hoped we could book together .
Scarlet Ribbon Happy Birthday have a lovely day and I hope your consultant gives you the best gift by discharging you x
Dumpling I have been thinking of you and your family I so hope the news from the hospital means she can have her op
Gers I like you am going through cupboards i keep finding bits of paper that mum wrote notes on rather than large items the hardest thing is her books she was a latin teacher and all her books are here but they don't teach the subject anymore do they? so they are obsolete I don't even think the charity shop would take them
Ruby glad you are getting out and about on the bike
Right I am off for a cuppa have a good day one and all xSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning all
Happy Birthday to Scarlett R, I hope your day is as lovely as it can be, and I have everything crossed that all goes well for you today and you are signed off xxx
Dry here and no rain due today which is nice, dd is off to the office for the day so its just me and big pup, I will drive her up to the park later and let her have a run, she is still too strong for me on the lead and if she pulls my arms it would hurt my chest so by driving to the park I can just let her off and walk round with her.
Dinner tonight is sweet and sour chicken, we have not had this for years but dd loves it so it will make a nice change, I will do egg fried rice with it, I have had a bit of an upset tum this morning so I hope that clears up otherwise I will just have the rice.
Got my car insurance sorted yesterday and got over £80 off the renewal price so I am happy with that,, just the MOT on Saturday so I hope that goes through with no problems.
Nels glad you have had the jab - you will soon be off galavanting !! xx
Have good days all xx15 -

Morning, hugs if you need one, happy birthday SR. Hope you have a nice days despite the hospital visit.
Very loathe to get up this morning. For years I have had to get up to go to the toilet in the night and then not be able to get back to sleep, last night I slept through till 7.40am........Wow!! no idea why. There are also nights when I know I am not going to sleep.....its very frustrating at times.
Just two rows to sew into the quilt now, hope to do one this morning and one after lunch, then its a good 'fudging press' and get it ready for quilting. I had hoped to use the tables at the chapel, but 'covid' rules that out. so I am going to have to use my cutting table.......I did sort through the 'cut offs' and I should have enough to do the piano border for it.
Its sunny with blue sky, but the wind is something else. Went out to get mince in for tonights supper and almost got blown off my feet.
Mince and tatties tonight, strawberry cheese cake for dessert.............
So the rows are together, have to sort out a border and sew it on before I layer it up.13
