External & Cavity Wall Insulation - can you use PIR with membranes?

    Condensation forms in the cavity as well as penetrating moisture. With a full fill insulation it can track back in the joins, whereas with correct type it can't because of the way the edges are formed.
  • Ah, yes I recall the stuff they used in my wall had a T&G edge so's they interlocked.

    I'd personally still be happier with a tight-against-the-inside-skin layer, with a gap between it and the outer one.

    The plastic clips went on the ties and were just pushed up tight to press them against the inner skin.

    Leave cavity empty. It was put there for a reason. Externally do not use cladding as it retains moisture being based on concrete. Go for Decopierre or Stonecoat lime based renders that offer insulation properties without the upheaval of EWI thickness causing issues with pipes, window reveals, soffits, DPC,. New nano tech formed internal insulation products are 4 mm thick and breathable. Great for behind plaster and over floor insulation.
