Its that time of the year again and have been doing to comparison sites as usual. am getting quotes averaging about £220.  My current insurer Churchill is quoting £280 an increase of £40 which seems quite excessive . I am looking at  AvivaOnline which seems to be as good as my existing policy and comes out at £190 with all the same benefits and £100 excess.. Just concerned that its all online, and that you aren't able to actually talk to anybody . Has anyone had experience of Aviva online. Have read the reviews and they seem to be okay but with some bad ones as would be expected.

For buying policy, managing the policy, changing vehicle and other details no issues whatsover and changing details online is free.

Easy to navigate website, chat facility worked.  GA is Aviva's comparison site brand - so try them for a quote too.

I have however never claimed and that is when you find out how good an insurance company is.
  • I’ve just purchased some car insurance with Aviva, buying via Quidco gives £60 cashback, so maybe give that a try, it makes it even cheaper.
  • My grandparents use Quotemehappy.com (Aviva's online brand). Very easy to use and always been competitive on renewal quotes (renewed twice with them now and atleast £25 cheaper than comparison). Never claimed though

Used Aviva a couple of years ago and it was competitive. Easy to use and update policy online. At renewal the premium was way over market rates so I moved elsewhere
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

You say Quotemehappy and GA are Aviva's online arm but the quotes I am getting from the comparison sites are Aviva Online with the above 2 coming up as seperate quotes in their own right.
Surely all 3 aren't the same company ?

    Why not?

Insurance is arranged by Aviva UK Digital Limited trading as General Accident.

Most of the big-name insurers have multiple brands. It doesn't mean they don't target different customer bases with each brand, so you may well get different quotes.

Yes, they are. Aviva (formerly Norwich Union) is the UK’s biggest insurer, and operates under a number of other brands.
GA were another very large insurer (General Accident) until bought out by Aviva.
it’s very common for companies to use different brands to aim at different markets.

  • I used Aviva for many years as they were competitive and I also had a very good experience when I had to make a complicated claim. Only changed last year because I left it late to renew and and when I tried to do it online (late on a Sunday) their system wouldn't allow it.

Just swapped from Aviva Plus to the Aviva online. Was £100 cheaper. OK, no phone support. But everything can be done online. Just changed reg no to my own plate. Took seconds (no queueing on phone) & Certificate printed off straight away.
    More than happy :)
