Transferred to 0% cards. Should I keep or cancel the old accounts?

I've transferred the whole of the balance on my Lloyds Credit card to a 0% Virgin card, and £5,594 from my Tesco Credit Card to a 0% MBNA card. This has used 100% of my credit limit on the MBNA card, leaving a balance of £,1283 with Tesco, which obviously is the priority to repay. I have £3,556 available credit on the Virgin card.

Is it beneficial to keep my Lloyds credit card open, or to close it, now the balance has been paid? If it's beneficial to keep it, should I keep using it for small amounts which are cleared each month?

And likewise, once the Tesco balance is cleared - keep or close that account?

Comments

  • As always, it depends.  As long as you have several other cards that you prefer and are using regularly, you could close it if you really wanted to.

However, there's rarely any need to close credit accounts.
