Defaults

Help, united utilties refused my request to remove my default status to an earlier date, as they defaulted me 2 years after my missed payments.  They say its policy give much opportunity to pay yet guidlines state default be within 6 months ive wrote to them complaining to no avail
Whats my options get default moved back earlier date?. Plrase

  • Go to the ombudsman and escalate your complaint. I had something similar with British Gas where they were reporting late payment for 5 years without a default. I complianed to BG to no avail so escalated to the ombudsman who had it resolved within a week. 
  • I’m not 100% sure but I think they have to default you after 6 missed payments if no other arrangement is agreed but I could be wrong on this I’m sure someone else will know for sure

    FCA guidelines only apply to consumer credit act debts, not utility debts.
    You need to check the terms and conditions of your supply contract to ascertain your correct legal position with debts of this nature.
