Typical big and spacious Glasgow flat. Very nicely decorated.

Price is a bit steep for just a flat. You can buy a bigger semi-detached victorian house for less. It's also in an ok area 5 bedroom semi-detached house for sale in Clarkston Road, Glasgow, G44 (rightmove.co.uk)

Interestingly, that house has been on since August 2020, & was on at £299,000.
Also, if you look at the first pic, the same agent had both houses on at the same time.

I live in the North of Glasgow, place called Milngavie, it's a lovely village but has 20min train journey to the city, somewhere like that would be good for you, good schools too, I'd check the secondary schools league table for good schools and then look at those areas.

Agree - it looks lovely, but a lot to spend on a flat. Looking at those nice wooden floors, I'd also wonder what the noise insulation is like and whether the people above also have bare wood floors.

Yes, but ultimately just a tenement flat likely to have students or AirBnB in close proximity.

I like that. Definitely like that, certainly the sort of place we're aiming for. 4-5 bed, character, a little bit of grounds etc. Price is good, pretty much same as what our tiny 3-bed middle terrace, ex-council house in Dagenham has just been valuated at!  Downsides are the busy road and I'm struggling to work out the exact boundaries, the neighbouring buildings and car sales shop behind. I'm also not yet convinced centre of Glasgow is where we want to be.

Really looking for a similar property transplanted somewhere quieter, with a hint of the rural and a bit of garden around it.

Basically any city centre/large town in Scotland is a slice of the London Cake, same shop chains, same pub chains, same coffee shop chains (disappointing to see that most of the independent cafe`s in central London seem to have been eaten up by BS,Costalot and Starhighbucks?) and basically the same (mini sized compared to London) Rat Race to pay debt and mortgages, you would need to be away from cities/towns to avoid the stress IMO, and unless you know the areas well I wouldn`t jump straight into a "Forever Home" because they might not turn out to be what you expected.

If it’s a detached 4-bed + house with character for £400k to £500k then that’s what’s going to narrow down your options. You can rule out Edinburgh, probably most of Glasgow as well. Not sure about the property market in Stirling and the surrounding areas but I imagine you’ll need to live in the back of beyond to get the kind of property you want on your budget. 

You could also consider schools as a way of narrowing down your search but that might mean rethinking the type of house you want and having to compromise on something.
