Head unit / stereo repair?

Got a head unit with a fault. It's pulling excess current when in standby mode killing the main vehicle battery. It's not the wiring as I have isolated it and connected it up to a spare battery and it still drawing nearly an amp in an off state.
Local electrical repair shop doesn't want to know.
Any idea where/what sort of business could possibly open it up and try and repair it? Or is it basically an uneconomic loss. £200 bye bye...?

Is it an OE one, or aftermarket?
If aftermarket, I presume it's outside warranty?
You'd have to be getting something pretty damn specialist to be spending close to £200 on an aftermarket head unit these days.0 -

Bit better, it's a proper Chinese brand rather than a no name and decent spec

Is it just me and my age but I cannot compute "proper" and "Chinese brand" in the same sentence. But then I remember when "Made in Hong Kong" was scorned. Times change, I probably haven't really.Flatulentoldgoat said:Bit better, it's a proper Chinese brand rather than a no name and decent specI'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.0 -
The trouble is - you might find a repair will cost you as much as you paid for the unit - not sure if you've found an independent repairer yet - but a long time ago I dealt with Advanced Electronics and Logistics - they repaired hundreds, if not thousands of car audio units for Halfords. I'm not sure they'll take on a Chinesium product though - but if all else fails you could drop them an email and see what they say.
