alternative of course is to build the roads properly in the first place and maybe don't need to keep patching them up.2 -
the actual point of this thread was not about whether or not we should be repairing the roads. but more about when they do repair the road how they leave the loose debris of tar and chippings laying in the road, instead of taking an extra 10 minutes and a broom to sweep it up. so it doesnt end up on the side of my car. it shows to me a certain lack of pride in ones workmanship.0

I've all ways been led to believe if you cant cut the mustard in your job and work is not up to standard, you are told to get your coat and close the door on the way out.1 -

cattom said:we've had some of the pot holes repaired in the lane that leads here. they've repaired some little bits but left some of the gapingly obvious ones. don't understand. never mind only tax payers money.
I know you feel it's up to who laid the repair to do, but if it is such a issue.
Get a brush and sweep the bit's to the side of the road. That's what i do with the bits that come loose down our street, to stop them damaging my carLife in the slow lane1 -
Best not come to our lane (private) 600+m of nightmare. I have a guy coming once a month to fill them in with planings, never ending job.0

50 hrs plus per week is the norm
Dont know why you added that, but anyway . . .
(Are you a part timer?)
I worked between 90 and 120 hrs a week
I did it for the glory, for the fame . . but mostly for the money . . . .

I added it because someone said 'you obviously never worked for a council'. point being that people who work for councils and large organisation do 37.5 hrs a week and think they are hard done by.0

Bit harsh on council workers bud. I am contracted to do 37 hours a week and the pay reflects that, don't feel hard done by though. Yes, I could go wok in the private sector and get more money and work more hours, but to be honest it's not worth it to me. I typically work a 45 hour week at the moment anyway mostly dealing with covid issues. Plus, the legal maximum working week is 48 hours for a reason - who wants to spend most of their waking life at work, when there are so many other fun things we can be doing.
Whether it's contractors or the council themselves, if they spent the extra 10 minutes tidying up each job, they probably wouldn't finish all their jobs for that day. Better a partly repaired pothole than an unrepaired pothole? As previously said, we could have pristine roads everywhere but then we'd have to pay a lot more tax for that. Bear in mind that once the council is told about a pothole, they have to do some sort of repair otherwise they'll have people claiming left right and centre, meaning less money to do any more repairs on other roads.
I'm sure you worked hard in your jobs, but working for a council isn't easy when you try to do a good job but are constantly having to beg for every penny to do that job, or have to do a half-arsed job because that's the best you can afford to do.
