BT Nightmare

Where do I start...
in 2018 I kept getting debt letters from BT from their collection firm. Id go through security and they said I failed security which was very weird.
The letters and calls kept coming and each time id call same problem so they wouldnt speak to me. I found it odd as ive had BT for 15 years.
Flash forward 2 years and I notice a default on my credit file. Ive never missed a payment on anything ever so it came as a big blow. The default was from BT but when I looked at it the date of birth was wrong. I am 29/01/1985 this was 29/03/1985. I rang them up to discuss it and this is what happened... It wasnt BT phone it was BT Sport, Id ordered the Tyson Fury fight over the phone and they make you sign up on a rolling debit card contract, the lady had taken down my DOB wrong and entered 3 instead of 1, my debit card had expired and I never watch BT sport anyway, emails must have gone to junk and no letters sent.
I rang them to say how if thay would have had my DOB correct id have been able to pay it years ago when the first letters came and it wouldnt have got as far as a default. They said it cant be undone and its my responsibility to make sure my details are on file correct.. Who ever rings BT Sport to make sure their DOB is correct?
So in short my credit rating is screwed because of this and after countless appeals to BT, Experian and Equifax nothing will get it done and its my fault.
I just dont know where to go with it?

There were ways this could have been dealt with outside of speaking to them over the phone. You say debt letters were received so you were given some idea what this was all about. No offence, but you don't seem to have been particularly bothered at the time or else you wouldn't have given up so easily.
I'd pay it off if I were you and move on. And next time perhaps not just give up and ignore it whenever you fail security on the phone.0 -
Tad harsh that? I rang them every time a letter come as I thought it must have not been me if the DCA wouldnt speak and I was logged into my BT phone account and it said I no debt. The DCA never said BT Sport they just said BT.0

Thats not true sadly as the default was registered 11 months after first letter from them as they had to keep passing it back to BT as they couldnt speak to me.0
