Moved away from Bulb a few months ago.  Got issued a final bill at the time, and the credit owed to me was paid back and account settled.  I have now got another “final” bill from Bulb saying they used the wrong tariff rates, and I owe them some money, not a lot admittedly.  I assumed everything was done and dusted and account closed, moved on with life etc.. what’s the thinking here on the forum? I’m inclined to say that’s not my problem, you’ve issued the final bill and settled the account 2 months ago. I also wasn’t told that all rates were going up, only the heating portion and the standing charge.

I'm afraid the supplier has up to 6 years after the event to correct billing errors
  • This is one reason why I left Bulb.  For several months I was constantly getting a bill, then a revised bill, and the next months it was a 2 month bill, and a 2 month revised bill.... 3 and so on.

When I contacted them saying its as difficult for me to track my usage, in reality I just found it annoying, they said it had been fixed.  2 months later it was still happening so I left.

Looks like I will have to pay it then, it’s very small admittedly so not an issue

    Bulb aren't the cheapest.
Tell him to establish his annual kWh usage obtained from actual meter readings, then to compare the annual costs (starting with the Citizens Advice and 'Which? Switch' sites), ignoring all projections and savings claims, and checking whether separate suppliers are cheaper.
He then needs to send monthly meter readings and to ensure that his DD is keeping up with his usage.

When I was with them, thought their billing system was good. I’d send them the readings monthly via an app and the bill would generate fairly quickly after that.  Allowed me to input 3 readings too, which the bigger firms never understood via online methods.  Obviously the actual cost will depend on usage.  Their tariff was fine in my area but recently I found cheaper

They only have 1 tariff per meter type so would be difficult for him to end up on the wrong one. The difference in how much he's paying is most likely down to usage and being on a variable DD. If you use a lot of heating one month, but barely none the next, then you would expect the bills to be different.

Make sure he's providing monthly readings to Bulb and see if he can get set up on a fixed monthly DD instead of a variable tariff.
