O/S Daily Saturday 20 February 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, dry underfoot.
Menfolk enjoying a lie-in, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips, beans and coleslaw for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight I'm thinking takeaway pizza for a change.
Yesterday I got done what was needed, so once I get home from work at lunchtime - I should be able to have a chilled weekend before back to work on Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.We are going to a shopping centre 2-3 miles away today, I'm quite excited. There's 2 supermarkets and an M*S, so I'll make a list before we go.Quiet day here yesterday, we weren't out, DH started tidying the loft and put some stuff in the car boot to take to the tip, so can do that while we're out.Maddie May I was sorry to hear about your Bil - hope he can be kept comfortable at home.AOD, hope you are coping ok, and that you've got good painkillers. It's maddening when you've got an arm out of action. Also thinking of Ruby and her family, Dumpling and Marie.Hope everyone has an ok day today - take care folks.15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Dry and mild at the minute but, wouldn't you know it, rain is forecast at some point. Yesterday was a day of drabness and mizzle. It matched my mood as I was having a down day, feeling sorry for myself. Some days the isolation gets to me and I can't shake it off, despite telling myself that better days are to come.
I finally gave my bedroom a sort of spring clean in readiness for my new bedding arriving and the remaining windows and frames got their clean at last. It's taken me so long to get round all the windows you could be mistaken for thinking I live in a mansion! Not so but I would like something smaller and easier to manage, both inside and out, but I can't face all the upheaval involved in moving. Plus there is still a lot of "stuff" to find homes for before I could even think about it.
So today will be another day of same old same old and maybe more jobs will get done, or maybe they won't. Probably the latter! I also want to lay in wait for the new postman! Three times in the last week I have had mail shoved through which was intended for the house in the little grove further on. Same number but different "road". I am fed up of trailing round there with it and I want to (nicely) point it out to him and maybe he will be more careful!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. All our poorlies, sad, worried, p***d off and recuperating. Take care one and all xx ps SCARLET yes you are right I am another Piscean but my birthday not till next month.

Morning everyone
Thank you nmlc for starting us off.
Thinking of all of you with things going on and hoping for better days to come.
Not much to report really - I've had a little clean round and am now having a coffee. Shopping should be here between 8 and 9 - not much really, just a top up to meet the minimum order.
Some kind of cereal for breakfast and soup with french bread for lunch (if the french bread arrives!). Not sure about this evening but I have some kievs so perhaps those.
I have some more cleaning to do and then I want to settle with my kindle and finish my book club read and then start another book. Although I've enjoyed the book club read, I won't be sad when it's finished. Still that's the point of book clubs isn't it - to try different books.
I'm giving myself a day off the washing as there isn't too much there.
I too have had a few "down days" this week - my DF has needed me in the night meaning I haven't had good sleeps so I suspect that has contributed to it. I'm not actually keen to get back to "normal" so not sure why I feel this way really. Still, we plod on don't we!
Have a good day all.

Morning
maddiemay I'm sorry to hear your news about your BIL xx
I'm sorry about your friend florenceem xx
I'm a piscean too, 50 next month. Is that the age when you finally feel like a grown-up? It hasn't happened yet and I'm beginning to wonder if it ever will.
Scamp got on well at the vets – curled his lip a couple of times but he sat still and there was no snarling! Turns out humans aren't generally allowed in still, but they take nervous animals into account and work with you as best they can.
My new jeans are a little bit tight but not uncomfortable so I'm keeping them, I've put a bit of weight on since Christmas so it's a good incentive to sort out my eating habits.
I thought it was supposed to be nice warm weather this weekend, we had wind and rain yesterday and it doesn't look good for the next couple of days. I had outside things planned so I'm not sure what to do with myself now. I have a couple of things to mend so I suppose I could get on with those – a seam to sew up and new button to put on. Also have a gypsy skirt which is too big so I want to alter it. I get it out and stare at it for a few minutes then put it away again, thinking I'll mess it up and then won't be able to wear it. Well I can't wear it now so I've got nothing to lose but I can't bring myself to make a start, lol.

Good morning everyone
today is the day I get to go home from hospital. I have received superb care from all the staff but I’m desperate for a cup of tea and a hug from the family.I will have to wait until they sort out my tablets but hopefully that won’t take too long. Steve will collect me and then he has promised to make me a roast chicken dinner.Thank you for all your well wishes whilst I have been ill. Sending hugs to everyone who needs one xxxx15 -
Morning folks. It's very rainy here, much better than being very snowy I suppose.DM spent all day in bed feeling poorly though she perked up in the evening. This perkiness led her to start clearing out the drawers which hold her extensive collection of lotions, potions, unctions and assorted medicines, both OTC and prescribed. She even had a little plastic bottle with the gallstones removed from her in 1983. 🤣 One drawer done, two more to go, there's a large number of containers to empty later. My attempt to use the 'new' hand mixer wasn't successful. Last week I threw out the ancient mixer and retrieved the new one bought for DM in March 2019. Turns out that the new one is not useable, the beaters just dropped out. I swapped them over, still dropped out. The beaters aren't a pair with both being the same, no wee collar on one. After being covered in egg, butter and flour I did the beating by hand to get the cake in the oven. Praise to John Lewis who have gave me a complete refund immediately whilst I ordered a better model. The two year guarantee had two weeks to go, cake was fine. This morning I'll be doing some shopping for the crossword / scrabble session.TA - down days are becoming too normal, it's so tough at the moment. I'm finding it much more difficult than the first lockdown. The only chink of light is that the vaccine is looking to being effective. Having Sparkle jumping around you is such a joy, I keep imagining my childhood cat which always makes me smile. 🐈⬛ She won a prize for being the best domestic cat (i.e. moggie) in Strathaven country show back in the late 60s. Loved that animal. No more waffling. Showering, dressing, going out all must take place. Thoughts to all those struggling. Happy Saturday to all.15

Morning All
Not raining but it's not far away so I'll get out for a walk and a bit of shopping while I can. I am hoping to get back to do a bit in the garden, we'll see if the rain stays away.
I've been very lazy, the weather yesterday was dreadful so after the housework I slobbed about looking at magazines my neighbour had given me, she must spend a fortune!
Hoping the poorlies are feeling better today, have a good Saturday. Take care. XX12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Mild here but pretty wet. I took the birds' food out before the rain got going, OH brought the suet feeder in for me, have refilled that and he has re-hung it.
Had a better night so hopefully today will be a better day, as yesterday was quite tiring. ScarletRibbons yes, it is a bit difficult doing things in one-armed bandit manner but at least I have OH to help me. I've got some paracetamol and I did take a few for the first couple of days but as long as I can manage without, I will. There are some left and more in the poorly box, though those are 7 years out of date, really should be binned.
Dumpling hooray on escaping! Enjoy being at home and being with your family.
Not much happening here, we are waiting for the car to come back, I expect the garage has to take it to a windscreen place now, OH has pointed out that they are pretty honest, he thinks some garages might have said that it broke due an existing crack that we had not noticed but they owned up to breaking it. Anyway we are not going anywhere so not having it makes little difference, other than the stuff that lives in the car like emergency things, is now all in the kitchen and dining room.
Gers, I am intrigued - did your DM allow her gallstones to be disposed of?
Hope you all have a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all.
TA, I have lived in big houses all my life, but moved into my bungalow just before the first lockdown and have never been happier. Of course I still have loads of stuff to get rid of and somehow have to find a space for a dining table, but the fact of being able to walk out of my bedroom and it is only half a dozen steps to the bathroom and kitchen, is still a source of wonder. It's like being on holiday.
tru, you have a long way to go before you start being an adult. My children are 49 and 52, and I'm still looking for signs of improvement. I was 50 over 30 years ago and am about to enter my second childhood. Can't wait. I'm especially looking forward to the temper tantrums bit.
Dumpling, you will be so happy to be at home. No matter how kind the nurses, hospital is not the most restful of places. You will feel loads better when you walk through your own front door and, more importantly, climb into your own bed.
Gers, you have been a wonderful daughter to your DM, but you must be longing to get back to your own home. Every time I read one of your posts I wonder at your strength of character. It's only natural that you have your 'down' times.Your DM is lucky to have such a daughter.
Well, Saturday again. I thought that time would drag during lockdown, but it simply flies past. I could swear that it was a Monday in January yesterday. The thought that it it will be March in just over a week's time is unbelievable.
However, it's newspaper and puzzle day today, so I must sharpen up my brain.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.11 -
