Under new guidelines, mot test centre will not give out printout when your emission passes (u can still request one)

I understand if they don't give out printout when your MOT passes, as you can view it online, but it is handy to know how much you passed the emission by on record, so you can compare year on year at home, whether it is by 0.1 or 1.0, (okay maybe no one does that lol) , but if they give those information out automatically before, why change it, why make people to ask for it, how much 'paper' are they actually saving? Infact the test centre would have to keep a paper copy of it for 3 months anyway, if they can't store it electronically.

Thought?

Following feedback from the trade and to reduce the use of paper in the MOT, DVSA are introducing changes to the requirements for issuing and retaining emissions records.

These changes will come into effect on 11 January 2021.

Issuing of emissions records
A record of the emissions test does not need to be issued to the customer with every test. However, the record must be retained in all cases and must be produced if requested.
If the vehicle passes the test, the emissions record only needs to be issued to the customer if requested.
If the vehicle fails the test, the emissions record must be issued to the customer.

Retention of emissions records
You must keep emissions records for all test results for 3 months.
These records can be retained as a hardcopy printout or digitally if your emissions machine can do this. However, you must be able to produce them if requested.
Failure to produce an emissions record when requested may result in disciplinary action being taken.

I don't know when I last got handed the emission printout. Not for years...

I'm not sure what it'll really tell you, anyway.

My usual tester lets me hang about while he's testing the car.
A couple of years ago, a pre-CR diesel of mine was VERY close - it literally just squeeked under the average smoke opacity on the last run possible. He accused me of not driving it hard enough... As if!
The following year, having done nothing to adjust the pump, it cleared it with flying colours on the first run.

My car was MOT'd last Tuesday and although I paid no attention to it, there is an emission printout attached to the MOT.
Not relevant to this thread, but I think they made an error with an advisory re the front offside tyre valve rubber deteriorating. I suspect, after examining them, it is the rear offside! Minor damage to the rubber from about 18 months ago, that I caused, when removing a stubborn dustcap.

I guess I pay more attention to it as my car is a diesel and has failed emission before after the rule changes in 2018.

Last year, I went on the motorway in 4th gear for 20mins before going to the test centre and pass no problem, it was a fast pass too.

  • I get a printout of emissions every year. Just request one then if you don't get it by default.

The 2018 diesel emission changes were ONLY to add fails for visible smoke on a DPF-equipped car, or visible signs the DPF has been tampered with.

Just purchased a second hand petrol car which has just passed it's MOT before the purchase. However, not too happy car seems to be using more oil than it should. The car failed the MOT previously and one of the fails was that the emissions could not be tested because of an exhaust blow.

Checking the car's documentation I have the new MOT certificate but no emission test report. Can I make a request to the MOT station for the emission report when the car passed it's MOT?

If it couldn't be tested, then there won't be any test results.

I presumed the fails would be rectified before the MOT pass was given and that the emission test is statutory condition for a MOT?

People who care can look at it online. The vast majority don't, so lets stop chopping down trees for the sake of it.

The whole lot should go paperless, servicing and MOT. Just email the paperwork as PDF's.
