Phone number is different under 'Settings>About Phone>Status'.

LG K3 (don't be jealous) mobile, which lost its network signal for a few days.
I 'chatted' with 'Three', and as part of their troubleshooting they asked me to check what my phone number was under 'contacts'. The number there wasn't the one for my phone.
They took me through changing this (you can tell I'm at a basic stage here...) in 'contacts', but when I later checked the phone number under Settings>About Phone, it's still showing as the other number.
What the? How the? Is the 'other' number the one that would have originally come with the SIM before I transferred my 'actual' number from a different network provider? Is it 'ok' for it to be 'wrong' - different to my actual phone number - like this?
Thanks.

Mine just says "number unknown".Doesn't cause me any issues. I did port my number but that was when I was with Three and the phone showed the old number (the temporary one I got with Three) but now I'm with o2 (and having changed the phone as well in the meantime), ported it again and now it doesn't show any number at all. It's fine. I dare say the number on your phone in Settings -> About will be reassigned eventually if it hasn't been already on the network.1

My Moto G5 Android is exactly the same.
Rightly or wrongly I had always assumed the discrepancy was related to the porting of numbers from one provider to another.1 -
Thanks everyone. I did wonder if it was the number originally assigned to the SIM that £ sent out. When my phone lost Network connection and the 'chat' fellow took me through a few things, I was surprised to find this number also shown in my 'contacts' profile.Anyhoo, all seems fine now - just curious0
