Admiral Car Insurance Missed Payment

Admiral have told me they will be issuing me with a default and updating credit references with a missed/late payment.  This is all because my direct debit wasn't able to be taken yesterday! They havent even attempted to retake the payment yet.

Comments

  • They are not obliged to retake the payment, the contract is based on you having sufficient funds available at the point at which the direct debit is due for the duration of the contract.

I would consider it a lesson learnt. Pay for your car insurance in full and save a ton of interest!
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
    Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £51,300)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
    0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
    Mortgage Outstanding - £138,087.38 (Payment 11/360)
    Total Debt = £1,125.00 (0%APR) @ £112.50pm

If it was yesterday when it failed - didn't you offer an apology and an alternative method of payment? What was the reason it couldn't be taken? Did you not have sufficient funds? Was it not set up properly? What was the cause of the problem?
  • Just for clarity, they won’t be issuing a ‘default’ for one missed payment. It will be marked as a one month missed payment, this is far less damaging than a default on your credit file. Just ensure you bring the payments up to date and pay on time for the rest of the instalments to ensure you don’t get anymore missed payment markers.

Hope you got this sorted OP, just make sure in future it doesn't happen again.
  • Did you ask them as a gesture of goodwill could they avoid recording the late payment if you brought the account up to date? They would be within their rights to record it but if you were apologetic and made payment they may have been understanding

Are we talking about the financial debt in default or the policy? (indeed 1 month / payment is not normal, albeit the definition of default can vary). I ask because some policies paid monthly consider it a default after a month in that the policy is cancelled (with all the lifetime horror that brings...)

Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.
  • It seems very extreme to record it as a late or missed payment because the direct debit failed.  I made the payment the next day.
