Moto G5 download problem

I have a Moto G5 and I can't download images sent to me via text message.
The phone attempts to download but can't do it.
Any help would be great.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

Do you have data enabled or are you using wifi only. Are your MMS server settings correct for your provider.
  • My Moto G5 is only 16GB internal storage capacity, so I do manage its storage on a fairly regular basis to ensure that there is always at least 3GB spare.
Do you know how much spare capacity you currently have?
  • Its MMS as neilmcl said you need to check your setting for you provider on your phone , Network Settings , mobile network MMS on. You can't download via WIFI

  • Thanks for the above help,
G5 now appears to be downloading photos!
All I have done is I noticed the Wi-Fi was switched off so I put that back on.
I also deleted a few photos.
Inspectorperez: Yes I noticed my phone only has 16GB of storage and it appears I only have about 1GB left to use. Is it Photos that are using up all this storage or is it the number of apps I have put on the phone.
What would you advise to free up more storage.
    Thanks all for your help.

You can increase your storage via an external MicroSD card, then make sure that all photos etc are stored on the SD card rather than internal storage.
  • I have a G5 too, constantly banging its head on the 16GB limit
Its annoying that apart from putting the photos on the SD card, there is no/very little option to move apps to the SD card on thin phone
Also frustrating that there are so many 'built-in' Goggle apps that you probably don't need/never use but are unable to un-install
  • You can "Disable" those Google apps, and any others you don't need. Go to Settings/Apps/The app you want to disable and click on disable. You might also have a look at Google Drive to put some photos into "The Cloud."

This is what I do and it seems to work for me.
    Go to settings/Apps & Notifications.
This takes you to your Apps list. Press on an app, say Google, and there should be a list which includes "Storage". Press on that and you will see a button which says "Clear Cache". I go through the Apps which tend to hoard cache and just clear them out. There might be a quicker way, but I haven't found it yetr.
Also, I use WhatsApp which includes videos/images etc sent by friends/family and which tend to accumulate on the internal memory rather than my external memory card. I clear all of these out from time to time and "spring clean" conversation threads.
I do this about once a month to reclaim capacity and normally get back up to circa 3GB + surplus storage.
Its a slight inconvenience, but the phone itself is a "brick" and very reluctant to replace it with a more modern model with a built in battery.
    Hope this helps.
  • Thanks folks some useful tips I will try.
