Who do I contact to get my gas meter checked out?

I've just had my boiler in my new flat serviced and I was wondering about the state of the gas meter. In my infinite wisdom, I forgot to ask the boiler engineer before he left... (though not sure it's really something he would know or care about to be honest)
So the meter itself is screwed into a wooden plank which appears to just rest on the floor of the cupboard under the flat above's stairs. Not an ideal location, and I can be a bit clumsy here and there, so I'd hate to bump into it getting the ironing board out. Also, some of the pipes have this odd greenish corrosion going on - I wonder if this could lead to a gas leak?
So question is, who do I call about this? My energy supplier, the local council, or someone else? Is it even worth worrying about? If I wanted it moved and or have a little enclosure made for it, anyone got a ballpark figure for this kind of work? Do I even need to pay for it? Etc etc

Cheers

I don't think they will be bothered tbh.
if you think it's susceptible to knocks, get a joiner to make a up a wooden box to cover it1 -
The " green stuff " is just normal corrosion /discolouration on the copper pipe ,nothing to do with a gas leak ,you are worrying for nothing ,get it boxed in as has been suggestedITS NOT EASY TO GET EVERYTHING WRONG ,I HAVE TO WORK HARD TO DO IT!1

Alright, looks like I'll just get a box made up for it. Thanks all.
