How can you remove an account from credit report?

Hi all
For years now Virgin Mobile has been showing up on my husbands credit report, the status says 'In Arrears' with a balance of £275
His report updates every month as Missed Payment to Virgin
The account was opened in 2011, he vaguely remembers having a Virgin Mobile but hasn't been with them for years or heard anything from them.
I've just come off the phone to them and they cant find the account on their system, was hoping to just pay the £275 and have the account marked as closed but if they cant find it not much chance of that happening.
Would we be able to contact the credit reference agency it appears with, explain the situation and can it be removed from his file?

Yes, dispute it via the CRAs. It should then either be found so he can settle it, or removed.
  • Thank you, it doesn't appear to have had much of an affect on him as he's been approved for 2 mortgages, credit card and a loan since 2011 its just annoying to see it there every month
  • Sorry another question I cant see a dispute section on Clear Score do you know I go about it?
It only appears on Clear Score, he's also with Credit Karma and its not on there
