O/S Daily Friday 19 February 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, drying underfoot after rain last night.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, fried mash, beans and mushrooms. Tonight dinner will be something and chips.
Yesterday engineer came out to DW so that appears to be ok now. I got going early yesterday and did a quick clean through, and engineer arrived early in the time slot I'd been given.
I did get a telephone call from a family member asking for help with another family member - so I spent some time there trying to sort the situation - which I was able to do but that situation is not going to improve long term and is only going to get worse.
I'll be heading to the SM first thing and then will have a chilled day.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning all - I've just lost a long post while editing, grrr.Hope everyone has a good day anyway, thinking of our sad and poorly people.Take care folks13

Good morning and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
I had a bad night, couldn't get comfortable and then somehow managed to fall asleep with my arm in a wrong position so woke up, decided to sleep in my sling (sounds like a radiator bed for a cat doesn't it). Then had nightmares so got up and I can have a sleep later.
You may remember that last week the car failed the MOT on just one thing - it needed a new washer motor. This took time for the garage to get as it is an old car. Yesterday afternoon I asked OH if he had heard from the garage and they had just phoned to tell him that oops they had broken the windscreen. You couldn't make it up.
I have a small load in the washing machine, I can load it but can't carry the basket once it has finished so it is timed to coincide with OH getting up, well roughly.
Unsurprisingly, no interesting plans, I'm watching a bit of tv which is unusual for me, though I do watch some films and documentaries on my tablet.
I've been out with bird food and there is a sparrow as my first visitor. As far as I know, the birds are not very interested in the mister's hair for their nests though I'm not going down the end of the garden to check right now. He is insulted.
Sending positive thoughts to my fellow wounded soldiers and to those who are worried or struggling and I hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning
Thinking of you RedRuby xx
Hope you're both OK ancientofdays and dumpling xx
I'm desperate for new jeans, my last pair are so thin and have worn through in a couple of places. Any attempt at repair will just make them worse. I've been putting off buying more, I like to see them in real life first. But they're so bad that I couldn't wait any longer so I've ordered a couple of pairs. I double checked measurements and zoomed in on the pics to scrutinise them but I bet I've still managed to order the wrong size or length – or both, lol.
Nothing is going on here at all, my days go like this – wake up stupidly early, flit about the internet while drinking many coffees, sort the chickens out as soon as it gets light, do some housework. Have a shower and think “I'm ready!” then ask myself “for what?!” I walk Scamp and hope we bump into at least one of his mates – human or dog - if he doesn't see anyone he knows for a few days his nervousness seems to start creeping back. I keep an eye out for people we know when we're out and about so he can keep up his socialising, I'm beginning to feel a bit like a stalker, lol.
We have the excitement of a vet visit today. Scamp needs his booster, I was going to put it off because I thought they collected your pet from the car, took them in for treatment then brought them back out to you. Scamp isn't happy with a visit the best of times, I'm sure if a stranger led him away then stuck a needle in him he'd panic then bite. But one person per pet is allowed in so he should be OK. Well OK-ish!
I'm off to sort chickens, have a shower then do nothing for four hours.

Morning all I am off to the other house later to clean as DD2 is coming to do a drive by and drop her dog off as she has been spayed and i offered (I am not sure I did ) to look after her for the week as they are both working and she is a bit of a loon a 1 year old doberman i would have her here but she is very boisterous with my dog so they end up having words so best we keep her separate and calm. In other news the landscaper may finish today or Monday so that's another job done just a few more small things to do then a big clean and we are ready for market .
Hugs to all the poorlies and those with worries . Have a good day whatever you are up to stay safe warm and dry xxSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning folks.Maddie - that's such sad news, it's just like the situation Ruby was in recently. My thoughts are coming your way.Dumpling - hope you're feeling better today. My foray into the outside world yesterday was brief but sweet. At the PO I saw a woman being so incredibly rude to the agent. She spoke on her mobile the whole time not even when asked to pay the postage for her parcel, she just lifted her card to the machine then walked off still talking. Not even eye contact with the person behind the counter. I was tempted to call her back to tell her she'd forgotten something, her manners, but wasn't fast enough as she was gone in a flash. Such rudeness really upsets me.This morning the cleaner is coming. I'll zip out when she's here. I didn't get myself a takeaway coffee yesterday so will do that today, just because I can! 😆 DM isn't too good so I won't wander too far or too long, she's certainly slowing sliding downhill, nothing dramatic or final, just a gentle motion. 😖There's nothing else on the horizon though I'm sure that I can find things to do if I put my mind to it. I'll make a cake for the crossworders tea. I'm toying with the idea of making two small cakes rather than one 2lb-er. One lemon and one coffee and walnut, we'll see!
Thoughts to all the family here. Happy Friday to all.12 -
Morning All
What a horrible morning, the rain is battering the windows and the wind is blowing the trees sideways, there goes my last day off to be spent in the garden!
Sorry it wasn't good news Maddie.
Hugs to you Gers.
Hope dumpling and AOD are recovering.
Still thinking of you Ruby and Marie.
As the weather has spoiled my plans I'll have to do the housework, nothing else for it. Have a good day, take care. XX13 -
Morning, Hugs if you need one, especially those of you who are either poorly or sad.
Strong wind keeping the temperature down, DB tells me we are in for 15c over the weekend, I will not be getting my summer knickers out until it reaches at least 20c!!!
Can someone tell me why strong cheese looses it strength when cooked? I put 6 ozs of strong cheese in yesterdays cheese pie, I could hardly taste it, mind you DB loved it!!
Plans for the day, start and put 'the quilt' together, two rows a session. If I get tired I start making mistakes and I really have had enough unpicking. I said I would not make another big quilt, and this would be the last, however, DD2 has requested I make one for GGD, it will not be such a big one and a much easier pattern. It can be for Christmas so need to start it in August -and that is the last. quilt. I will carry on doing smaller ones, ie table runners mats etc.
Think I had a senior moment when I did the order for Aldi, 2 jars of honey and no jam, oh well........ thats life. It poured with rain all the way in and out, so glad to get home before the road flooded.
I opened a tin of carrot and coriander soup yesterday, it was awful....... will be having a go at making my own. Need to look for a decent recipe. It will have to be dried coriander, we do not have any growing in the herb bed. The two herb containers we have outside the back door are due to be emptied, fresh compost and new plants put in. Its ages since they were made. Nicholas made them for us at least 11 years ago. One got badly damaged when we were at the cottage in East Linton, a horse box detached from a car and rammed into it. so it had to be repaired.
Fish and chips tonight for supper, I need to get the fish in from the outside freezer, reminder to self to order more on the next Aldi shop.

Morning all
Dry here but very cold again, dd is off to work shortly so its just me and big pup here. I went and saw mum yesterday (she is in our bubble) and she was very down she cant stop crying atm I think its really hit her now the funeral is over and there is nothing to do, she had ordered a new mop and could not get it together so ended up throwing it across the room, she said that Steve would have done it if he were hereso I put it together for her and calmed her down and she was much better when I left. I will ask her if she wants to come for dinner tonight just to get her out for a while.
I have been re-oiling the wood counters in the kitchen so I shall carry on with that today I shall do the two small bits today which will leave the one big bit for next week, I also have to finish our click and collect for Mr A tomorrow.
I ordered two new bras during the week and wore one on Wednesday it fitted beautifully but the band which goes around your body was less wide than the other ones and has rubbed under the breast and caused another small hole which is very sore, so I am trying today to go without a bra to let it heal over, its my fault as I wanted to wear a pretty one for a change but its too soon so back to the industrial ones for a while longer !!
Maddie I am so sorry to hear about your news sending hugs xxx
Nels hope you are ok my friend xx
Love to you all xx12 -
Madden, my concentration is not what it should be this week, I've read back and am really sorry about your news.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back10

ScarletR. It must be the day for it. The Post-Eating-Monster has had two of mine already and I've lost the will to live. Or at least, the will to provide the PEM with any more meals.
Lots of love to our poorlies. Ouch to the bra, Ruby and a virtual hug for your Mum.
Everyone else, as my friend always says, "Chin up. Tits out."I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.12
