In retrospect, I would NOT have done the festive shopping this way and I’m very irritated about my Tesco order being so rubbish. And that I only discovered it after having already been to Tesco already today!Next year, I am going to order alcohol, crisps, sweet treats, store cupboard bits at least two weeks before Christmas and store in a box in the outhouse labelled not to touch before the big day 😅 then for the fresh bits I think I will just go in person super early one morning right before Christmas.Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

After it took me an hour to get out of the supermarket carpark yesterday I decided that next year it was going to be a delivery. I didn't know whether to go to sleep or suffer a road rage attack. I went through what I bought when I got home & realised that the only thing that was dire was if I didn't get any courgettes. I've never seen them frozen either so that isn't an option. But if that is all I'm short of the local co-op will do nicely. I'm sure most of the people in that carpark were not in the supermarket. I don't like the idea of doing it online. I'm sure I would if I was still working but it wasn't really a thing then.

Normally I love my Tesco deliveries @badmemory, we get two most weeks (I find I waste less getting two little shops instead of one big one). But I think it’s just chaos in the run up to Christmas so it’s really hit and miss what you get. I think getting it almost all in advance will help next year 🤞🏼Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

My ASDA click and collect had a couple of acceptable subs, but two things not available. One of which was a turkey. Doesn't matter to me, it was a small joint as I like turkey sarnies post Christmas, but it would matter to some.2

If they get those orders in good time how on earth can they not have stuff. Forgive I don't really know how this online ordering works. Is it possible to have something on your order then delete just before? Mind you after the hours queueing at the local butchers a few years ago for a fresh turkey it is frozen all the way. Life is way too short to wait for several hours for a piece of very expensive meat.

@badmemory they have staff members who do your shop for you a few hours before it goes out in the van. While they won’t let you order stuff that’s out of stock, it’s of course possible for stuff to go out of stock in between your order and them doing the picking & packing because people are constantly coming in and doing their shopping in between. Not the turkey which was pre ordered for us, but the usual shopping.Apparently their little computers suggest substitutions which is why so many are ludicrous. If they aren’t good substitutions they’re meant to override it with their own substitution and often do but I heard if it’s really busy/chaotic that’s when they might be in such a rush they just throw the suggested sub in and move on…Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

Thanks for the info re online orders. I have been thinking about it for some time as I am getting less mobile & will probably need a hip knee replacement which will mean no driving for some time I think & no-one to do it for me either. I don't like the feeling of loss of power & control. I must admit that it is their subs that I find more concerning than something not being available at all. A lot of things would not be a problem as for instance I keep 27 tins of chopped tomatoes in stock & top them up when I shop & rotate. The having to deal with rejecting is a bigger problem for me. I always like to read about peoples experiences so I have some idea of what I will need to deal with. But last week it took me half an hour to get out of the carpark & this week an hour, that has probably cost me more than a delivery charge or the extra to shop at the local co-op. A real eye opener in fact.2
