Ppi underhand behaviour,is this a scam?

I attempted to claim ppi all within the dates set and did quite well.
However, Barclays and NatWest were quite underhand in claiming they could not trace accounts despite me giving them the details and dates, although I no longer have the account numbers.
Both failed to respond to letters after they stayed they could not the accounts and Barclays then stated the deadline had passed.
Daftly, I applied for a card processing service through a division of NatWest a few weeks back and within days of agreeing to use the service, a letter turns up.
It stated they had written to me recently with an offer and wanted account details to pay the funds into. I've not had a previous letter to this effect at all and wondering if things have been triggered by the new service or if it's a scam to get account details?

Depending on the age, archived files often were based on the account numbers.  Not "details".    In the early to mid years of PPI complaints, the data was not usually on their systems to find old cases easily.   In the later years, a number of banks started to input archived data back onto systems to allow it to be found.   So, rejections on the basis of no records were able to be reopened if matches were found. Some did this automatically.  Most waited for you to complain again.

Ask them and see what they say.

  • Why would a bank try and pay you a PPI refund if it's a scam? Do you think multi-billion pound banks are going to try and get money from phishing?

Is it a legitimate letter i.e. bank logo, correct address, no spelling mistakes addressed to you not "the occupant" or whatever, does it quote references only you and they would know?

Ring up their PPI team and ask (use the number on their site, not anything on the letter).
