Looking for a Solution within Facebook

Options
Hi

This is the issue.  I am associated to a 'hidden' support group on Facebook (it's only visible to those who are members) and you have to be invited to join the group. What has happened is, one of the long-term members has been asked to leave the group, because a new member, who needs the support of the group has realised she knows another person on the group and they share a few mutual friends.  New member is worried about privacy etc.   The longterm member is rightfully devastated because the group has been a lifesaver.   As the group is constantly growing, this is definitely going to happen again.   I intend to take this up with the Admins of the group, but before I approach them, I want to at least be able to offer some possible solutions to avoid this happening again.

Is there a way members can post to the group, but exclude certain individuals from seeing the post?   I know you can do this on your own personal timeline.  I tried to see if this was possible within the group but I couldn't see any options to exclude others.

Could the person who feels vulnerable, literally from their own settings, block the person who they have an association?

Something else I thought of, just not sure it could be done.  ie, anyone who is invited to join the group, if they later discover any association to other members, that they notify the admins ASAP.  Also that all new members sign an undertaking confirming they will not discuss the group content or disclose the group exists and if they discover an association to any other member, they do bring this to the attention of the Admins.

Many thanks

    Will that work if there are references to members within the group by others?

    If you want anonymous on any social media don't use your real name and have multiple accounts if you want to keeps parts of your life separate.

    I would have thought if Person A, blocks Person B.  Person A creates a post but person B can't see the post.  I guess if both person A and B were commenting on posts by other members, there would be a few 'gaps' in the replies.

    In order to be invited, your profile needs to be genuine as this is how the admins vet you.  The admins send a friend request to the person and then from there they generally know for certain the new member is genuine and can safely be added to the group.

    I guess it could be agreed to use a non-identifiable FB account

    Which would presumably contravene Facebook's Terms of Service:
    1. Who can use Facebook
    When people stand behind their opinions and actions, our community is safer and more accountable. For this reason, you must:
    • use the same name that you use in everyday life;
    • provide accurate information about yourself;
    • create only one account (your own) and use your timeline for personal purposes; and
    • not share your password, give access to your Facebook account to others or transfer your account to anyone else (without our permission).

    I don't think this is a major problem.  It transpires we do have a few members in the group who are public figures and with the agreement of the Admins use pseudonyms.
