I suspect half of that is labour. It's surprising how much labour costs these days and that isn't a quick job you're talking about. If you do it after the event and you aren't competent enough to do it yourself , you're still going to be paying for labour so I would just get it done now.1

Thanks to all who have responded.
We love the house, so pulling out is not an option for us. I agree with a lot of comments that £2k isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, but considering we haven't chosen anything else for the rest of the house, I just worry the total will continue to rise. I will see if we can make changes which will reduce the cost, but if we can't, we may just have to bite the bullet - I don't want to look back when I'm in house and regret not doing it - I just don't want to be taken for a ride in the process!0 -
