Strange disappearing acts on my computer?!

This morning when I reached for the stored history files in IE the folder was completely empty - I definately didn't delete them myself!! Where could they have gone?
On my computer is spybot, avg antivirus, windows defender, zonealarm firewall, nothing else.
Could any of these possibly cause this type of mystery clearing out session?!!
I'm the only person who uses my desktop and the other person who uses the same computer, my DD, cannot access my account, there's no way she'd guess my password and it's not written down anywhere.
Previously, on Sunday, I discovered some media files had completely disappear and I know I definately didn't delete them - they are absolutely nowhere on the computer, the date they say they were last modified (they now have 'ghost' images in itunes) I know that I didn't do anything other than listen to them via my laptop speakers, which surely couldn't have affected them in this way????
Have checked the machine for suspect stuff using spybot, AVG and Windows defender all of which say computer is running normally and nothing suspicious found?!!!
What's happenin? Anyone got any ideas?

Open Internet Explorer.
Go to Tools | Internet options
Go to the General tab and click Settings in the Browsing history section
Ensure that the history setting is not set to 0 (zero) days in the Days to keep section and that you have at least 50Mb showing in the Disk space0 -
Ah! Now why didn't I think of that?!!:o It was set to keep history files for 20 days have upped it a little and checked it is set to 50mb of disk space.
