O/S Daily Thursday 18 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark with a blustery wind but reasonably mild for the time of year. Rain forecast on and off for the coming days.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was spanish chicken and rice. Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausage, fried mash, beans and mushrooms. Several of these items need using up.
Yesterday work was ok, now on days' off but working Saturday then back on Monday. I have the usual "to do" list for today and tomorrow. I'll get cracking with that once the menfolk have gone to work. Engineer coming out today to fit a replacement part to our dishwasher - only been waiting since November last year for the part!
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. You are always so busy, you put me to shame. After two lovely days of sunshine we are back to the gloom again today with heavy rain forecast and a dip in the temps.
I am getting good at this, I managed to get Sparkle in her carrier at the second attempt yesterday. So we were ready and waiting for DS when he arrived. It was the usual steroid injection and some drops for her at the vets - a cool £73. These monthly vet bills are mounting up and I've told her she might get sent back at this rate. But she knows I don't mean it 'cos I love her to bits!
I ordered some new bedding online yesterday from Dunelm so my plan for today is to give the bedroom a bit of a spring clean before it arrives. It could really do with decorating but that job is beyond me these days so it stays as it is. Then there is the usual Thursday job of cleaning the kitchen and bathroom. Oh such excitement.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. We have got quite a list now - RUBY, AOD, MARIE and DUMPLING - sorry to hear your hospital stay now includes a hysterectomy and I hope all goes well for you. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Morning All
It was very blustery overnight with heavy rain but it seems to be calming down now. I enjoyed the dry, mild weather when I got home from work and did a few jobs in the garden although it's very soggy out there.
Stopped on the way home and bought some very large plastic pots from B&M, wasn't too keen on the colour (grey) and look very plastic but at £5 each they were quite a bargain. I've sponge painted two of them with some paint that was lurking in the cellar and am quite pleased with the result. Just a bit worried the rain will wash away the paint but time will tell.
Not working today or tomorrow but back full time from Monday, it'll be a shock but I really do need some sort of normality.
Hugs to you Ruby, you've certainly had more than your fair share of worries and sadness, look after yourself as well as everyone else.
Hoping dumpling and AOD are recovering.
Thinking of you Marie.
-taff - what are you planning to build?
Well done Sparkle!
Right, must go for a shower and go shopping, there's very little fresh veg in so will go and stock up.
Hope you can enjoy today, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks. The wind is very high, has been all night though it's fairly mild. It's so nice to see the light coming back earlier and earlier.DM's new phone arrived in good time so I did the setting up thing. It was fairly easy as I'd done a backup to the cloud from the old phone so I just had to fiddle about to turn off things like Face ID and Siri, these would baffle DM. The old phone is going to my eldest nephew, he's very techie so will do something with it.Today I'll be going out, such a treat, there's the phone to post off, an order to return to JL and some medicines to collect. There may well be a little pause at the coffee shop 🤭 if I plan my route properly. DM is getting more anxious when I go out but I can't afford to let that get to me too much.Sorry to hear from the poorlies and really hope that everything gets sorted very soon. I'm sending out virtual hugs. Happy Thursday to everyone.14

Morning
Grey and drizzly here ....I hate the way all my weather reports seem to describe me too now
Much warmer though which after doing my meter readings yesterday is a good thing. Horribly in debit now so bring on warm weather than the work can start to pay that off I'm usually neutral by the end of summer but at this time of year it looks scary
Made some pancakes last night which were OK but glad its a year till I do it again. Some leftover batter so will add another egg today and make some yorkshire puds for later
When we were kids we often had yorkies as a starter before a roast with loads of onion gravy and pickled cabbage it was a good way to fill us up before the main bit I guess.
Excitements today will be taking the bins out and filling the DW. Also need to sort my frying pan which seems to be losing its non stick.
Have a good day all

Morning all well the sun is shinning and today WILL be a better day Landscapers are nearly done and i am pleased with how it looks hopefully we will be able to enjoy it for a bit before we go . I have spoken to the bank this morning and they have apologised i did say i had no issue with the principle of them checking i wasn't being scammed but the way they went about it was not helpful. Nothing much to do today i have the patio door blinds in the machine in a pillow case so they should look fresh when done but it means i have to clean the doors boo.
Hugs to all the poor lies and worries sending positive and healing vibes
Have a safe warm dry day xx

Morning, Hugs if you need one.......Its a dreich morning here, I think it is actually raining, although it wasn't when I got up.
Into town this morning to collect my shopping from Aldi, the click and collect is working great for me. My grocery bill has gone down by almost 25% now I am back with Aldi. Don't get me wrong I was grateful for Sainsbury and Morrison's delivery whilst we were 'shut in'. At least now we get a ride out to collect the groceries.
Chap came to DB's lap top, it had put itself to sleep, whew, money for the savings pot after all. I have also found a company that has the cooker I am looking for in stock, I may well order it next week, the sooner we get it in the better, I will have to look for the old kettle we used on the gas hob in the caravan. My ironing is due back this afternoon as well.
I belong to support for carers, yesterday I had a 45 minute phone call with them to see if I can get attendance allowance, I am needed more help myself these days. The lady filled the form in for me, I have to look out reports from the hospials to go with it, it will come to me to sign it and then send it off.
I have done the last block of the quilt for GGSon, I will lay it out this afternoon and check that there are no more 'wrong un's' before sewing the rows together.
Supper tonight will be cheese pie and beans.........yummy.

Good morning everyone! Hugs all around, sounds like we all need a hug and a good old chat - I am missing that! Everyone in our household is more than a bit narky and snappy at the moment and my 16 year old DD is no exception - I know its her hormones and not being with her pals and general teenager stuff but I do miss her even though she is in the same house. DS announced he was embarrassed about the state of our house at the weekend, again its just general frustration I think at being at home, drags you down though.
Generally at the moment with work I can't be ar$ed and just going through the motions this week and will be saving myself a load of work to do next week hopefully when I feel more motivated - lets hope so.
Did a race around with the general house stuff dishwasher, hoover, some downstairs bathroom clean - there's still plenty to do and our spare rooms are looking pretty dusty - save that for the weekend as well alongside everything else, add to to tomorrows dust!! Did give the pantry a clean around this morning as there was a general layer of sugar and flour in there!!
Dinner last night was an easy chick kiev and oven chips - broke the budget at the weekend buying myself some orchids and nice treats in waitrose and just went wild and bought some ready made kievs - they were yummy though and some in the freezer for next month!! Got some pork belly in the simmering oven today and hope thats nice tonight with some bubble and squeak. Will have to make something sweet today, maybe xmas shortbread and use up my HM mincemeat from Xmas - hope its nice!! and maybe some Aga brownies but they disappear too fast!
Its just started to pour down with rain so that should be a lovely muddy walk at lunchtime dodging the half term walkers
Time for a fresh pot of coffee and maybe a chat with my mum.....

Morning all, dry, bright and sunny after heavy rain in the night. Lots of house chores and life admin tasks on the list for today. Definitely need to keep occupied and busy though as my fears for yesterday were confirmed, BIL had appointment with Oncologist, my Dsis was able to accompany him, but no more treatment, no more CT scans, keep him comfortable for as long as..........
Hugs and spoons to all that need them, and if any spare please save some for me and my family.
Keep safe and well.

Maddiemay, I'm sorry your BiL got bad news, hopefully he will keep well for a while.
We got a bit of bad news yesterday in that Brian didn't get the post he was up for so he will be jobhunting again. Not the best climate for it but we're trying to stay positive. He has three months notice which he might take as garden leave to concentrate on jobhunting.
Esben is in a narky mood this morning and Laura is on a zoom meeting for her course so we are trying to distract him as much as possible without resorting to Hey duggee on the gogglebox. I am really lacking inspiration for dinner tonight - maybe spagbol we've not had that for a while.12 -
Morning all, I had a better night with the aid of extra pillows to sort of fix me in position so that I wouldn't roll onto my left. It is odd trying to adapt to doing things with one arm, I'm still wearing pjs as they are a bit easier to get my arm into, summer pjs tops as they have short sleeves and a shawl. The bruising is still a sight to behold but I think the pain will start to subside soon.
OH has very thick, white hair, mine is only white in stripes and he is younger, and it was at the stage where he couldn't stand it so DS gave him a haircut so clouds of white hair everywhere. I've sent him down the garden with it to see if the birds would like it for their nests.
TA Sparkle must be a l'Oreal cat - because she's worth it.
Dumpling I hope the hysteroscopy goes well and that you will soon be on the mend.
Yesterday I made myself some toast for lunch, managed to get a bit of butter on it though not exactly spread, managed to drizzle a bit of marmite on it and then dropped it.
Hope everyone has a decent day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12
