S&S Isa - HSBC global strategy or ?

I went for an Interactive Investor S&S ISA and am researching and putting in funds.
Apart from their selected ii60 Super Investments, I've been looking at HSBC global strategy (As seen on here and other groups). However I see 3 types - Balance, Dynamic and Cautious.  Then I see they have accumulation and income? No idea what that means..
I take it these are managed active funds with a highish charge?

Bit, new to all this, so go easy on me please.

I have already opted and bought some
JPMorgan Emerging Markets Ord as recommended that are in the right direction, so must be doing something right!.  :D

The HSBC funds hold a broad range of focussed passive funds.  The fund costs are low eg OCF of 0.19% so slightly lower cost than the similar Vanguard Life Strategy funds.  Unlike the Vanguard funds they vary the %s of the underlying passive funds to maintain a steady level of risk in varying economic circumstances.

INC means that you get the dividends as cash, ACC is if you want them automatically re-invested in the fund.  ACC would be the default unless you want the cash.

There’s actually 5 ‘levels’ of HSBC Global Strategy - the 3 you’ve mentioned plus Conservative & Adventurous.  Not every platform offers them all.

(Allowing for the fact that all investment involves a risk) they offer 5 levels of risk from Adventurous to Cautious.  I don’t believe they have the home bias of the VLS funds.

I’ve got a chunk of Balanced which has been OK.

They are managed funds but they have low charges as they use underlying passive funds.  All multi-asset funds are managed.  Even when they use underlying passive funds.

I prefer inc units but the return is the same with either (assuming income reinvested).

Nothing you read on this site is a recommendation.   Plenty of opinions. Some useful. Some not.  Some things people say can be completely wrong and bad to follow.

An emerging markets fund is designed to be held in a portfolio of other funds.  Typically you would have a fund for US equity, another for UK equity, European Equity, Asia etc etc.   They are not designed to be held in isolation.   And are not aimed at inexperienced investors who don't really know what they are doing.

Agree about the recommendation, it was away from this site. More of a family and friends chat.
Also, aware abut the emergence market and risk. The whole point of this S&S Isa and what I hold with II is mainly for risky profiles. All my other investments/savings are in very safe things, my Pension is managed by others, Index Linked, cash ISA and premium bonds. So this is effectively play time and I'm not too concerned about loss.

Just to say those hsbc funds are in the same category as the Vanguard life strategy and the ishares/black rock MyMap ones (and others). Monevator site has an oldish blog on it, I think called fund of funds the rivals or something, going into some interesting comparisons.

I ended up plumping fo a little bit in MyMap5
  • As above are number of alternatives.
