O/S Daily Wednesday 17 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Ruby - hope everything went as well as these things can, thinking of you all x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, much milder than it has been, but rain is forecast alongside the mild temperatures.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be the spanish chicken and rice.
There was no further news from work yesterday and spoke to colleague who is a higher position than myself and they seem to think we won't be told much now until into March - so the waiting goes on!
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
It's very windy out this morning, I may get blown away! Dry for now but showers due later, some of yesterday's rain was biblical but we did see the sunshine for a while.
Great service from the garage Gers. I often wonder what people do when they take their cars there as there's nothing within walking distance.
You and your family are in my thoughts Ruby.
Thinking of you Marie.
Hope your arm is healing AOD.
Busy day at work again yesterday and the good news is I get to do it all again today! I would imagine I am back full time from next week as we'll have some of the children back but will hear later today.
Washing up to date and I had a hoover round yesterday, the plumber came and decided as the toilet was now working something must have been stuck so left it alone. Glad to have it working again but will call him back if it happens again.
Have as good a day as you can, take care. XX12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc. I'm sorry to hear that the work uncertainty is dragging on so.
My lack of interesting things to put will now continue as I'm more or less restricted to reading watching tv, and although I am a reader, it is unusual for me to watch anything on TV without knitting. I need to get my OH to do stuff like cleaning and tidying and he doesn't like that much, though he will happily cook and wash up. I'm showing him how to do washing .That sounds ridiculous but it is a new washing machine with 87 million programmes. Most of which are not going to be used.
Was chatting to a friend yesterday, a few years ago she fell and managed to break both elbows, one wrist and one finger. Her partner had to go to work and left out a range of drinks and snacks, with straws and she more or less managed. Though I do remember how frustrated she was and I really should think myself lucky as I've got one functioning arm.
Hope Dumpling is feeling better and has anyone heard from MM ?
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning folks. It's rather wet outside, as long as there's no snow I'm happy enough even though I won't be going out.I've got a couple of orders coming today, a Stanley knife and little gel pads to replace a couple missing from a glass kitchen board, can't bear the wobble any more. Then there's a new phone for DM, I held out as long as possible but now her phone is beyond being useful. The one she has now is my long discarded iPhone 6, although she can't use it to make to take calls she uses it to text some friends who don't use email. It must be my week for getting great customer service, long may it last. First the heating company, then the garage and finally I had to contact the phone company yesterday when I made a slight mess of the order.TA. - I hope that the steroids for Sparkle have arrived and she feels better.AOD - please don't be tempted to do more so soon after your fall. Your OH isn't alone in not liking cleaning and tidying, he'll muddle through it fine.Hugs to our poorlies. Happy Wednesday to all.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It was lovely yesterday until tea time and then torrential rain appeared from nowhere. It didn't last long. Today more sunny spells and tropical temp of 11 deg!
Wish me luck! Today is vet day and Sparkle will doubtless turn into a psycho cat as soon as I attempt to get her in the carrier. I got it out yesterday and left it in the hall and at the first opportunity she will be shoved in there!! DS is picking us up about 4.30 and what's the betting she will still be on the rampage when he gets here!
AOD I sympathise with the millions of programmes on your washer. Mine is the same and I only ever use the same two programmes and spin speed. Does anybody actually use them all I wonder! Tesco delivery yesterday and this time I had a few subs and one missing. Grr! Next time I really must try and keep my order to the minimum basket price as I am spending and buying far too much for one person.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, invalids and carers. Thinking of RUBY and MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe x

AOD and TA - I'm the same with the washer! We had a new one recently and I literally use 2 settings and adjust the temperature as I see fit! I sometimes use the dryer just to "fluff up" the towels for a few minutes but thats about it.
Not too much to report from me - just waiting for the SM delivery - really just some basics but still managed to spend £70!
I just have one meeting for work today and then can get on with my work. I am struggling to stay motiviated work-wise really - I'm getting the work done but I miss being in the office. Still, I'm not complaining as working from home is perfect for looking after my DF - if a bit boring! I am telling myself not to volunteer to get involved with too much at work so that I can maintain my work/life balance to be able to do my work and look after my DF without getting too stressed! I am guilty of wanting to get involved with everything as I like to be busy but then it backfires when my DF is being needy! I remind myself how lucky I am though as so many are now without jobs.
Anyway, food for today - cereal for breakfast and I have made a curry for lunch. Not sure about this evening yet.
I've had the usual clean round and prepped the fridge for the shopping to just be put away when it arrives.
Have a good day all.

Morning all Gardner is firing on all cylinders and should hopefully be finished by Friday Yesterday was a down day i had to go and get some money out to pay him and queued for 30 minutes and one person went in the bank in the end i had to come away and will try early this morning the lady who was behind me in the queue was still there and had moved maybe 2 places one being me when i drove back past . I am still waiting on a cheque from BUP* its been 2 months now and until i get this i can't close my mums bank account they keep emailing me asking when it will be closed its a considerable sum and they owe it but i am fast loosing patience with them and yesterday was a bad day . Right today will be a good day and i will treat DH and I to a cake from the bakers and I will go and not wait a lifetime at the bank. Oh I forgot to mention i tidied the larder in the old kitchen at mums and why did she need so many dusters and cloths ? 4 carrier bags worth really even if i used one a day of each and threw them away afterwards i would still have had enough to see me out and i am 52
TA Hope Sparkle behaves maybe get the cat box out this morning and leave it with the door open otherwise the outer of a bic pen makes a good blow gun for sedation along with bee keeping gloves x
Ruby Thinking of you and your family
Marie thinking of you
Nmic how aggravating they should give a date and stick to it to let people know its not fair to keep people in the dark
Gers what a wonderful gift i hope your mum enjoys the art materials
AOD I hope you are feeling a little less sore x
Right onwards n upwards have a good day stay safe warm and drySlava Ukraini13 -
Good morning all, I decided to look in here before I eat so that I do not drift off doing house stuff etc and end up not posting, like yesterday.
Thinking of RR, Marie, AOD.Bella I hope that things pan out better today and TA that Sparkle is in angel cat mode today.
Yesterday we parked by the castle and walked along farm lane as far as the farm itself, didn't walk on past to make it a longer walk this time, too muddy, then back to the riverside café and stood people watching (and the ducks and swans) while we drank a lovely coffee.
I woke in a right tizzy today, bedclothes everywhere. after a most muddled dream involving 3 significant events all happening at the same time. Today a close relative goes with her OH to find out the results of latest batch of blood tests and brain scans for X, he is only 63 and has brain tumours (secondaries), from previous conversations she is expecting he will be given the worst news, not helped as expecting to do battle to accompany him, they are so compassionate at the big hospital but awful where they go today. Keeping everything crossed for them.
Keep safe and well all, I was advised yesterday that my shielding is extended until the end of March.
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)12 -
letter from the government yesterday to carry on shielding until the end of March as I am extremely clinically vulnerable. I have had one jab and the other one due in about 9 weeks but the advice is to carry on shielding regardless of vaccine status. I know it is for the best but am really struggling with isolation. Cleaner comes today so I must tidy up in readiness!11

Morning, Hugs if you need one. Hope the poorlies are feeling a bit better.
So another day another dollar, I have to go to the Drs and put in our repeat scripts and then come back and go to the next village the other way to the Post Office, I need cash to pay my cleaner next month and also the lady irons the bed linen for me.
Terrible night, I ended up getting up and taking more medication at 3am. I think being confined for so long is beginning to get to me. There is only so much you can do. The Post office once a week, and Aldi for click and collect once a fortnight is the extent of going out. I think I have only filled the car up twice in the last 12 months. I park it in gear, I had a problem when the hand break would not release. The chap at the garage told me not to park on a hill and leave the car in gear.
I checked the photo we took of the quilt laid out on the bed, have found a block thats wrong, so need to unpick it. I have 3 blocks to do, then I have to layer it up etc. I will not be sorry to see the back of it. My other daughter is making noises about doing one for her Grand daughter.......she will have to wait and it will be no where as big as this one.
So smoked haddock with poached egg, bread and butter, ice cream for dessert is on the menu fpr tonight.

Morning all
Thank you again for thinking of us all, the funeral went as well as these things can it was a short 10 min ceremony with just music playing and us sitting there thinking of him, it was heartbreaking to see his boys, one of them (the oldest with a learning difficulty) sobbed and broke his heart throughout the whole time, and the other three were trying to be so brave, the twins at 18 were holding the tears back but you could see how upset they were. Mum broke her heart too, it was made worse by the fact tha we could not get together afterwards with the boys. Today would have been my brothers Birthday he would have been 57 so I will group message them later to check they are ok. I just miss him so much.
We heard last week that we will get no help for the funeral costs from the government, we were really hoping to get at least something but no go, I honestly dont know how people manage if they lose a loved one with no money.
Soup and crusty bread for dinner tonight we seem to have quite a lot in the freezer so will get some out to clear some space, there is a chocolate sponge and custard for those who want it afterwards.
AOD I hope you are not too sore, take it easy my friend xxx
Dumpling I am sorry to hear you are in hospital again take care of yourself xx
Have good days all xx
