Forgotten pattern lock on Samsung

Hi all,
Just wondering if someone can help.  My younger brother has set up a pattern lock on my mum's Samsung J5 phone.  He has forgotten the passcode that he set up! (Argh!).
My mum now cannot get into the phone.  I have looked online and almost every page suggests pressing 'Forgotten pattern' and this will allow you to log in with google/samsung details.  However, this 'forgotten pattern' option is not available on my mum's phone no matter how many times i have tried.
Can anyone help any further, failing which i will just have to factory reset the phone.

Thanks :)

The "forgotten pattern" prompt should come up after a certain number of unsuccessful attempts.

  • Thanks, but i tried entering the pattern many times and it never came up. Sadly, i dont have my mum's samsung account details.
I ended up hard resetting the phone, but now asking for google account details - of course my mum doesn't know what they are!
So i reset the google password but now when i I reset the password but now when I try to log in using this new, correct password I get the following message: 'Something went wrong.  Please try again.'

I try again and then get the message 'Please Sign in One of the Owners Account for This Device' and it continues in this loop.
I am entering the correct password. I read on a Samsung website that if you reset the password at hard reset you will need to wait 72 hours before you will be able to log in but it has been well past this.

I have tried many youtube videos to bypass this but i think the OS on the phone is old so they don't work for me. Should i just resign my mum to having a brick now?
    Thanks

The other option is that your younger brother pays for a new phone out of his own pocket.

Tell him he can keep the old one.
