Persimmon home finishing touches

Hi everyone,
I am in the process of buying my first Persimmon home, and because someone referred me I get £500 off the "finishing touches" provided I spend £1000. My friend has an integrated washer dryer that they put in and looks flush, smart and tidy. I don't want things jutting out in my kitchen, I think it looks horrible (and I always stub my toes!) . The washer dryer is priced at £900 so if I add a couple of USB sockets to bump it up to a grand I could have both for £500. Is this a good deal? Part of the reason I want them to do it is because this is my first home and I have no idea about installing things myself and with covid a lot of places like Curry's aren't offering installation, just showing you how to do it on the website.
Has anyone had any of these extras and if so are they a total rip off or would the price be worth the ease of not worrying about flooding my new flat? Thanks so much everyone.

  • Have you looked at the cost of the washer dryer online? USB sockets are fairly cheap so ignore them and just decide if the washer dryer is worth £500.
Personally if I were going to pay for upgrades I would use it for things that are more 'part of the house' and more of a hassle to get later. Like better kitchen surfaces/cabinets or upgraded flooring.
  • No idea how good the integrated washer dryer is, but you can compare prices to similar models here:

Personally I've found integrated laundry appliances to be too expensive and limited in choice over the years. A freestanding appliance can be hidden just as neatly behind a suitably-sized cupboard door (which you won't have, I suppose).

As for installation - if you have the right connections in your kitchen (as you should) it's very easy. Plug in to electric socket. Attach cold water input (normally just a threaded connector - i.e. a screw action - and opening a valve). Attach drain output. Adjust feet to level if necessary (again, just rotating a screw).

£50 for a USB socket is a rip-off, but I presume you know that anyway.

So the prices before the discount are pretty crazy and fictitious, but with the discount it doesn't sound crazy as long as the machine isn't a piece of you-know-what with a shiny cover slapped on top of it.

I've just had a look in the brochure and the brand is "Zanussi" and they average about £600 to buy from John Lewis, A O, and some other shop. So if I've worked it out right and the slimy sales guy isn't lying to me I'd have the appliance and a couple of USB plugs for £500.
  • OK. There will be Zanussis and there will be Zanussis (for instance, I know that the John Lewis own brand machines used to be rebadged zanussis). But it doesn't sound unreasonable given what you say, and given that you would get installation done, fine.
