Unknown CCJ

Hello

First time poster so apologies if this has been discussed before or I’m in the wrong area!

So my husband and I rent and are looking for buy our first home this year. I used to credit Karma to gain my credit and file and was absolutely shocked to find a CCJ on my file issued February 2015. I didn’t know where it came from and did not receive any court papers. Anyway when looking at it closely I realised it was for an address I have never even lived at or have any links with. I contacted the court  and they have advised me this was from an old Lloyds account - when looking into it further I did have a credit card in 2005 but assumed it was ‘wrote off’ when I was made redundant from work and was covered - I moved address around the time and didn’t hear anything from it.

So I’m sure the debt is mine. Here is my predicament- please don’t judge me for asking this but 6 years has ran on the CCJ it was filed against me 6 years tomorrow! What I am wondering is do I try and pursue this for incorrect address etc or do I leave it and if I do will it come off my credit file as it’s been 6 years?

Thanks 😊

  • P.s I clearly didn’t proof read this 😳 hope it makes sense!
  • If it’s due to come off tomorrow and you have never acknowledged the debt it may become statue barred anyway so you wouldn’t be pursued for it

CCJs do not become statute barred, however after 6 years the claimant would have to apply to the court to enforce the judgment, with really good reasons for not enforcing it sooner.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • My mistake I didn’t realise that

Ok thanks, it’s a tricky one as I won’t know if they are going to apply to enforce as I assume it will go to the same address and I will be none the wiser! It’s for roughly £350 so it depends if they would think it’s worth it
  • It's for £350 and you don't want to jeopardize a mortgage?

    Pay it!

Yes true - I thought I’d ask as I have not had a CCJ before and was thinking if it’s 6 years since they filed tomorrow is it worth me getting in touch or did it disappear that was all..

No-one's chasing it, and it won't be on file next time you (or anyone else) looks
And 'it was for an address I have never even lived at or have any links with'
    Ignore it
