  • Can anyone help. We bought a sofa from Argos last year we are already on our 2nd 2 seater sofa. The same fault has occurred around 6 months later. Argos sent there independent insurance company. He has said it’s cosmetic damage. This been the suite is less than 1 year old. It’s due for payment I’m refusing to pay with it been less than a year old. They now want me to pay for my own independent assessment should I do this?

Do not refuse to pay, the finance is a separate issue to the fault with the sofa, not only will refusing to pay the finance invalidate your rights to use S75 connected to the finance should it come to that, it will also likely mean a blemish on your credit record for non-payment.

If you wish to dispute their claim that the damage is only cosmetic and not relevant then yes, you will need to do this. If your claim is accepted the cost will be refunded, if you are not successful then you will have to cover this cost yourself.
