Where to: Buy the cheapest REAL Christmas Tree?

Comments

  • We usually buy one from our local greengrocer but last year we bought one from Homebase and it was an absolute disaster. Every morning I woke up to a carpet of needles around the base and it became so bad that decorations would just fall off the tree as the needles just broke off beneath their weight. By New Year's Day the tree was virtually bald. I will never buy a tree from Homebase again!

last year oh bought from the forestry commission at Moors Valley near Ringwood. This cost an absolute fortune, avoid at all costs! Normally we get them from a farm about 20 miles away which is cheaper and has deliveries daily, try a local farm.
  • I think I got the best deal ever last year. My local homebase were selling real trees for £1 on christmas eve :D I was really chuffed.
sadly this year homebase aren't stocking real trees in nottingham as they are closing soon :(
When I asked if they were getting any the rather miserable looking woman behind the counter quite rudely said " I somehow doubt it" and stormed off.
guess she was upset about not having a job for much longer :|
I still dont have a tree yet this year.

We got ours from ASDA last year, but this year their haul is a bit disappointing. They are in pots, which is what we are after, but they are all 4ft Norway spruces, and I am after a 5ft blue spruce or fir. They don't seem to exist in a pot though. I have seen lovely cut trees in B&Q, actually cheaper than the potted ones, but then we would have to buy a proper stand and they are about £25. Their potted trees were tiny. Should I just bite the bullet and buy a cut tree + stand? Are there any cheap stands about in which you can fill water to keep the tree alive for a while?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Wilkinsons are selling potted trees for the first time this year, different sizes.
  • R4pture- Which Homebase is this? Arnold? If you can get over to the large store on the other side of town they had loads of trees when i went last week. I have to say that they really were not that great though.
I got ours from B&Q on Riverside Retail Park. 6ft potted real tree for £19.98. I thought that was ok. I have to say that some of the trees that are being sold this year are shocking!

Just a quick message to beate. We just get a decent sized black bucket' fill it about 2 thirds with sand and put plenty of water in and then use old bricks and wooden wedges to hold the tree in place. We then cover the bucket with christmas paper. It works really well and you can top up the water easily.

Becky, I wouldn't buy a Homebase tree - please see my post above - ours last year was AWFUL. It was nearly bald by Christmas day, I spent the whole time picking up the decorations that were just falling off the tree because there were no needles to hold them on, and hoovering up all needles that fell off when the decorations fell off, or the cat walked past, or the door shut or someone breathed......d'you get the picture yet lol? ;)

    Thanks, we might try that.

  • Every year we go down to the woods on a sunny day at the beginning of November, pay a deposit, the children choose their tree and label it. Every year at this time we swear alot, go up to our knees in mud, slide on our backsides down a muddy field in the rain to cut down our tree. You'd think we would still remember by the following November wouldn't you.
