Partially settling an Account

Hi
I've had an option to settle an old student loan account that I forgot to defer and became liable for. If I pay the partial settlement I shall have a marker placed on my file for 6 years.
However this account is not currently showing anywhere on my credit file so can this happen?
Furthermore does anyone have any advice on how this would affect me in the future as all my other accounts are in good order but I am concerned how this may affect me in the future when it comes to renewing car lease and mortgage in a couple of years time?
Thanks for any advice

Student loans aren't reported to credit files.
You'll just need to declare it if asked.1 -
Who's offering this and what is the discount? I wasn't aware that you could do deals on student loans.
Is this a pre-1998 loan by any chance?0 -
Thanks for the advice
It's from around 97 98 and through erudio loans0 -
Then take advice. These loans can become statute barred if not acknowledged for six years (unlike later ones). They are also written off at an earlier point.
Suspect something like that is going on as discount settlements are not normally given.
Ask National Debtline0 -
Thanks
The settlement has been offered as an alternative to small claims court so I think they are able to pursue it.0 -

Them offering it as an "alternative" really should not be taken as any sort of evidence that they have a leg to stand on. Bluffing is certainly a thing.0 -

That's exactly NOT the way it works.
They offer a discount settlement on the debts that don't think they can push through the courts and, the bigger the discount, the more dodgy the debt. Have you run this past National Debtline?0 -

Will contact debt line and enquire about this then, I had contacted them on receipt of the court paperwork to try and resolve this prior to court.
