Joint Tenancy

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help with my actions. Or at least tell me I don’t have a leg to stand on at the moment.
I have a joint tenancy with my ex boyfriend, and currently there are 5 months left of a 12 month fixed contract. He moved out early January, and told me he will pay £100 a month to help me out till the end of the tenancy. I was also paying for a Holiday with him, in which I was paying £100 a month to. He also told me I would get this back.

Now, he has turned quite bitter, horrible. And is refusing to pay anything as he believes that because I’m left with £10 over a month I don’t need his support, nor any of the money back for the Holiday paid.
He is still on the tenancy contract. Is there anything I can do, legally? Or is it one of those things I have to accept?
Thanks

With a joint tenancy you each have joint and several liability for paying the full rent. What evidence do you have that he said he would continue paying £100 towards the rent after moving out of the property and that you would be refunded for the holiday?Nicolejadelake said:Hi, I’m hoping someone can help with my actions. What are your plans at the end of the fixed term? Do you want to continue living in the property? If not then check your tenancy agreement for a break clause to see if you can bring it to an end before the 12 month fixed period. Alternatively you could try and negotiate an early surrender of the property with your landlord.0 -
you can make him pay for his share of the rent but you have to satisfy the courts that you have done everything possible to break the contract and move out early yourself as although he is jointly liable for a share of the rent, even if he does not live at the property, you can't continue to live there voluntarily at his expense, without trying to get an early release from the landlord.
if you have paid towards a holiday with him and the money is refundable from the tour operator, the you will be able to claim that back from him.0 -
Is this a one bedroom property? Anyway to configure it so you can share with a lodger for a few months? Otherwise, see if you can arrange an early surrender with the landlord (not the agency).
You have claimed single person' council tax allowance?
If the holiday is cancelled, nake sure the money comes directly back to you.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
