Some great goals there. I don't think jewellery is frivolous. I would try to pick something that isn't easily lost / broken though...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality

It’s a dress ring with a flat stone setting. It’s designed for everyday wear. My mum has seen it and likes it. I might take her with me when I go to the jewellers.
Still nothing from the solicitors.

Yes I also love the jewellery idea - I also once bought a musical instrument as part of an inheritance- I will never sell it and it beautiful to look at and playDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The price of the ring I wanted has just gone up significantly in price to £900. I can’t justify paying that. There’s another one, same style but different stone for £695. How disappointing. Still not sure I can justify it. I’ve had my eye on this for nearly a year.2017 - mortgage of £140,000 and interest rate of £10 a day

Sometimes they go up suddenly for say 28 days so they can then have a sale and discount it back to the original price. Here's hoping for you...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality

Thank you but I think it’s unlikely. This is an independent jewellers. They don’t usually do sales. My guess is the cost of the stone has gone up and the price of the ring has increased as a result.2017 - mortgage of £140,000 and interest rate of £10 a day

If you took a photo of it - you could potentially get a different jeweller to make it for you... Always worth an ask.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality

It can be frustrating waiting for these things. Mrs E is awaiting a gift from an inheritance and it can be hard to avoid mentally spending it before it arrives!1
