O/S Daily Tuesday 16 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Ruby - hope everything went as well as these things can, thinking of you all x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, much milder than it has been, but rain is forecast alongside the mild temperatures.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO roast beef, LO mash, LO yorkshires, veg and gravy - all eaten and enjoyed - no waste, Tonight we'll be having spanish chicken and rice.
Yesterday work was ok, still no news but there should be at some point this week.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Hope you do get some news at work this week. The snow and ice are disappearing so quickly here, yesterday was lovely, the sun shone nearly all day. We went out for a walk, it was still slippery in places but not half as bad as it was.Today I'm going to nip to Morries for a few things, that's all really.DH didn't have his hearing test yesterday, when he arrived at the clinic, they said he didn't have an appointment - fortunately he had his appointment card with him to prove that he had, but he "wasn't on the system".Anyway, they apologised and gave him another appointment for a couple of weeks time. I knew something must have gone wrong when I saw him pull up outside, he was back too quickly.Hope you feel better AOD, and thinking of Dumpling, hope you are improving. Also Ruby and Marie, thoughts to you both.Hope everyone has a good day - take care folks12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels almost tropical this morning after all the bitter cold days we have had. I hope we have seen the last of them now.
Excitement of today is a Tesco delivery this afternoon. Will there or won't there be anything subbed or missing. I am still avoiding stocking up the freezer until stocks out there have tumbled further but I am keeping the grocery and household cupboards well stocked up.
The talk of Fry's Five Boys on here yesterday took me back to the 1950's! The grocer at the bottom of the lane delivered my DM's order every Wednesday night and he always brought in a box of assorted sweeties and chocolate bars to try and tempt his customers into spending more money! My DB and I were always allowed to choose something and did it take some deciding upon! Dennis (I even remember his name!) stood there twiddling his thumbs whilst we deliberated! My final choice was always between Five Boys or the Fry's Cokernut Bar - that was dark chocolate with a pink coconut centre. Oh I can taste it now!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, carers and p***d off. Hope AOD and DUMPLING are on the mend. Thinking of RUBY and MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning All
Really windy here this morning, the rain was battering the windows in the night but it's dry for now.
Enjoyed work yesterday, it was busy but not too manic. Just waiting for an announcement today to see if we can partially open on Monday. Called at DDs on the way home, the little one hadn't slept all day so I took her out in her pram hoping for a quick nap. No such luck, she babbled away pointing at everything going on, would be surprised if she made it through her dinner!
Chap coming to fix the toilet later, it'll be nice not to have to trail downstairs in the middle of the night.
I planted some bulbs yesterday that have been hanging about since Christmas, the ground has either been too wet or too frozen to do anything, hope they come up as it's quite late to get them in.
Thinking of the poorlies and those struggling, hope you have a better day. Take care. XX11 -
Good morning folks.Yesterday must have been the day for failed appointments. I was only mildly irritated by mine as I enjoyed the drive. The garage is sending a couple of staff to collect my car this morning, I hope it works out OK.
DM cried when I gave her the stash of art materials, a very unexpected reaction. I've set things up on the mostly unused dining table and turned the heating up in the room. One piece of paper has been stretched and dried, that was the easy bit. The hunt for a razor blade to cut it off the board took me into dark corners and unknown places 🤣 I eventually found a couple in DM's sewing box so I got that piece of paper free. Now I've ordered a Stanley knife and metal ruler, just for my safety. DM had better produce masterpieces now. 🎨
That's a lovely memory TA, it's surprising how the mind can pull out such things from a small trigger. It's a great thing, the memories are great for the soul. Thinking about Pancake Tuesday brings me right back to my DM making piles of them for breakfast which we had to have earlier than usual. My DB and I both always wanted just lemon juice and sugar. No fancy stuff then!Think I'll try another loaf today. I had the crust setting on medium so will click it to light this time. I'm hoping that once the pan has been used a bit more it'll settle down, otherwise it's going back. I'm also going to make another Mexican Tortilla as it's something DM enjoys. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks, DM was upset that she couldn't get me a card or present so I gave her a card from my stash to give back to me. I'll choose a present later though there's nothing I need or even want that much. Such an age thing.I hope that everyone is doing well, my thoughts are with our poorlies and sad. Happy Tuesday to all.10 -
Morning everyone
Started a new book yesterday 'Where the Crawdads sing' - recommended it by eldest DD and I'm really enjoying it. I have jobs to do this morning so I'm not 'allowed' to read it till after lunch. I want to give the bathrooms a good clean as the towels will dry outside today - I hate drying them inside as they're always hard. I've got all the 'too big' clothes for little one washed and ironed so I have those to put in boxes and have some stuff to sort into bin bags for when the charity shops re-open.
Not planning to go out unless dads new sky hub is delivered, I think it will be tomorrow at the earliest though. So I'd better get on - the sooner I do something useful, the sooner I can read.
Hope everyone has a good day11 -
Morning all Gardner is beavering away and DH is working from home so i will be taking a boot full over to the other house DS is coming home to take his motorbike hopefully i will sleep better knowing that even if the garage is broken into there is nothing to take . It always worries me at night if i hear noises as we back onto a field and bike theft is high here at the other house there is 6ft wrought iron padlocked gates and an automatic roller shutter so much safer. I think we are going to sell this house as we know there must be good tenants but you never know until they move in and the tales you hear on tv are frightening and we really don't want the aggravation .
Right better get on loading the car I am going to sort the pantry out today its in the old kitchen which is now the dinning room so we will see what secrets i find
Have a good day one and all fingers crossed for next week and we can see some blue skies ahead xxSlava Ukraini11 -
Morning all.
The Big Tidy took place as planned yesterday. Well, it was more the Middle Sized Tidy really. Oh, very well. It was quite a Modest Tidy really, still it got done and I glowed with virtue for the rest of the day.
Today I'll do a bit of ironing and change the bedding. Oh, and make pancakes. I don't usually bother, being on my own, but this year I just fancy them. Like you Gers, I like them with lemon and sugar. It's a bit of a faff making them for one person so I will probably make a few extra and fill them with a mince mixture, roll them up, cover them in cheese sauce and bake.
TA, your memories of fiftiesstyle sweets sends me off to my childhood.
I was well into my teens when sweets came off the ration, so as a child I hardly knew what they were. We used to get a penny or two for pocket money but had nothing to spend them on. There were 3 corner shops on our way to school (about a 5 minute walk) and one of them was very kind to us kids with a penny to spend. We would buy one Oxo cube and suck it contentedly, or, if we were lucky, a little screw of cough sweets , Melloids or Fishermens Friends were the favourites. The boys, deprived of anything to chew, used to buy a stick of wax and chew that. I tried it once. Once was quite enough. Red Letter day was if the shop had Ovaltine tablets. We would put our pennies together and buy a tin to share out.
If you are now all in tears at my deprived childhood, don't bother. We knew nothing else and were perfectly happy sucking our Oxo cubes.
You really shouldn't get me going on reminiscences, I can bore for England.
Hoping ADO and Dumpling are feeling a little better today. Fingers crossed that you hear something soon nmlc.
Loving thoughts, as always, to Ruby and Marie and anyone else who could do with a hug.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning all! Raining, but no zero temperatures, whoopee! In recognition of the sudden uptick in temperature I cleaned the fire yesterday and then went a step further and cleaned the slate too. I gave it a good WD40ing to bring the slate back up again, it looks lovely, but it's already wearing off in parts. Any tips or applications to keep it looking dark and beautiful? I think we might have finally found an architect too after searching for over a year. We'll find out today.I was also involved a three way conversation last night about a possible new cat for my friend who lost hers before Christmas. I hope it works out for them. She's a pretty cat and cuddly and not a kitten so ticks all boxes. I'm expecting more wool to turn up soon because I underestimated the amount I'd need and also, i overestimated the size of it, so the poncho may become a blanket. Oh well, you win some, you lose some....Nanny, I was so disappointed in the cake, next time I'll make something different. And save a slice for you. Althought you might find Maddie's are more palatable
I hope Mr Fixit is over his draining of blood and back to perkiness today. Gers, aww, that's lovely. Hope the car is done efficiently. And same as on the pancakes, but I am liking Monnas idea of savoury ones too, one cook, two meals! Camelot, I've got some bulbs too I've been meaning to plant, lets hope they do decide it's not too late. Scarlet, how annoying for your DH. AOD, I hope you are not as spectacular today..Dumpling, hope you're feeling better today too. Hey all reading along [ in secret or completely openly] take some time to pamper yourselves, here's hoping for bright and blue skies and enjoy the tropical weather along with TA [ and me]. Hawaiian shirts at the ready!

Morning, Hugs to any one who needs one and an extra one to the poorlies.
Ah woe is me.......DB's lap top refused to start yesterday, it was my old one which he took over when I got my new one, I hope its not kappt, if it is, thats the gas cooker down the drain, no way am I drawing out any cash from the emergency fund.......I have an amount I was going to put in the savings pot at the end of this month, it may well be destined for another cause!!
A chap came this morning to look at the garden, its too much for the two of us now, but I just do not want to move, the thought fills me with dread, I really do not want to move back into town. So no alternative.
Load in the washer, it will have to go in the dryer, no way can I hang it out, its too damp. Ironing is something else I have had to hand over, cannot cope with standing to iron, sitting is a no no too.
We are waiting to see what plan we will be put on by EDF, our previous supplier went to the wall a couple of weeks ago. I will wait and see what the deal is before I decide whether to change or not. It bugs me when companies hike up your payments. All last year we were paying £39 a month for gas and electricity, and at the last bill in January we were still £48+ in credit.
Yesterday afternoon we laid out the blocks of the quilt I am making on our bed, I need to make 6 more blocks to complete it, then it has to be sewn up, layered, quilted and bound. GG sons bithday is 11th March...........
Just got a container of mince out of the freezer for spag bol for tonight.8 -
Morning all, it's rather wet hereWe had an early phone call from the surgery this morning and it seems Mr Fix It is deficient in B12 so there are more tablets on the way. Poor thing he already rattles when he walks and now he'll have more meds to take, then its extra bloods again in 3 months and he already feels like a pincushion.Today I'm having a quiet day as I'm at Dad's tomorrow and then the jabs on Thursday, so I'm going to just potter about. I've already put away some stuff but there's always more to do if I look in the right places. The DW has been emptied and re-filled with the breakfast dishes and I've wiped down all the worktops.Tea will be LO pasta from the freezer and of course pancakes for pud. I don't have any lemon and the oranges have already been eaten, so golden syrup and ice cream will just have to do.......... such a hardshipTake care all, stay safe and well. Hugs to anyone in need and healing vibes to all the poorly ones.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10
