Duvets - 4 Tog vs 4.5 Tog

Hi
I currently have a 4.5 tog duvet and i need to renew it. My bedroom is warm during the nights so this is more than enough.
However, ikea doesnt do 4.5 togs anymore, they do 4 tog duvets. I have read this is recommended for children mainly so im a bit in doubt about buying it
Is there a lot of difference between a 4 and a 4.5 togs? Would you recommend against buying it?
Thanks

In my experience the state of the filling makes a tremendous difference to how warm and cosy you feel in bed. If your current duvet is thinning in places, or flattened all over, replacing it with a nicely plump down filled new one will probably make you feel a lot snugger. So given that you say yours needs renewing I would think that you are unlikely to find that the half a tog makes any difference.
If you do begin to feel less comfortable my tip would be to add a mattress topper or fleecy underblanket as both of these give you a real boost in warmth and if you combine them then you will be approaching really warm and cosy.1 -
I have a small tog rating on our bed as husband likes a cool bed. I'm absolutely fine when we go to bed as I always have a hot water bottle and when theres two of us in bed its plenty warm enough. However he gets up two hours earlier than me and I then really feel it. I keep a big patchwork quilted throw, folded onto the bottom of the bed, which gets pulled over me in the mornings.
In answer to your question, I dont think it will make much noticeable difference.1 -
I think the type of filling is important. We prefer a natural filling with 100% cotton cover.I can't see why Ikea would say a 4 tog duvet would be more suitable for children.John Lewis have a good explanation about fillings and tog ratings:

We have had a 4.5 tog duvet on our bed for more than 2 years. I feel the cold more than my husband but we have both been ok. We have an electric blanket on the bed so its warm when we first get in. I also have a quilt across the bottom of the bed which we pull up if we feel cold. In the summer if its very hot we have a sheet and just the quilt on the bed.1

I don't understand the purpose of a 4.5tog? I sleep with a fleece and 2 x 15tog duvets 8 months of the year.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

It's for people who don't feel cold at night and don't need a 30 tog duvet.

I use a summer weight duvet most of the year. Coldest nights I might have a microfleece over the top, summer I just use a duvet cover or no cover at all.

As a woman 'of a certain age' I would explode with 30 tog. We currently have 2 x 1.5 tog 'duvette' blankets with a throw and I frequently lob the whole lot back to cool down a bit. Our heating goes off at 7.30pm so it's not like we keep the house boiling hot to keep the bedroom warm.

I have a 4.5 one out of Lidl on the bed at the moment , and so far its been the best lightweight, low tog one Ive used . For me, thats winter weight, no heating on in the bedroom, window open and I still sleep with a leg sticking out the side
. Summer, its a cotton sheet and a lap blanket for over my shoulders - him in beside me likes the duvet
Other the years Ive had all sorts of duvets, Ive the most beautiful luxurious down and feather one that whilst is a complete cuddle, is too hot, As I say Im loving the Lidl one. Duvets are such personal choices, no one can say that a 4 tog is any better or worse for you then a 4.5, Just remember if its too cool, chuck on a blanket
