Travel Insurance

Last year I purchased Covid specific Travel Insurance from a well known travel insurance company in order to cover myself and family should we have to cancel our trip due to having the Corona Virus. This insurance was not cheap but would be worth it should we have to cancel our expensive trip to Disneyworld Florida. Our trip has now been cancelled by the travel company and all monies returned. I have been in touch with the insurance company to say our holiday is now cancelled and we know longer need the cover so would like a refund.  They have refused stating it is non-refundable but as a gesture of goodwill will extend the cover. Considering we are being advised by Government Ministers not to make plans for holidays and the whole issue with the quarantine process this would seem a fruitless gesture. Has anyone else had such problems?
