experian score dropped significantly

Hi Everyone. I have tracking and trying to improve my credit score, starting from a 'very poor' score I was just on the border of 'fair'. Today mu score has been updated and It's dropped right down to 603 from 702 which is bizarre. My total debt is actually a little lower than the last report. I have not taken out any new products or made any late payments etc. I just can't fathom it. About a month ago , purely out of interest I clicked on a car finance quote link. It stated that it was "just a soft search" and would not impact on credit. I don't have any intention of buying a car on finance right now but was intrigued as to whether or not I would be eligible which i was! I can see that there were several searches made but I was under the impression that these were soft searches? on my credit report summary the searches is the only think that has changed. Do you think that this is why my score has dropped? I still have a green smiley face on the dashboard summary page.
Or is it just all a load of nonsense that means nothing?

  • Please read the sticky thread explaining that your score means nothing.
  • You shouldn’t rely on your score you should actually check your credit file to make sure that nothing has changed, check your data once a month not your score

Not bizare at at all.  After all, it just a randomly generated number produced for entertainment purposes only.

Don't worry about it. Only you see the meaningless number.

My credit score on Clearscore dropped by 400 points last month for reasons only known to them. Nothing new happened on the files, the balances on the accounts all reduced as they do every month, yet still the score plummeted. My scores on Noddle and MSE Credit Club both increased.

They really are just randomly generated numbers and mean nothing. Lenders do not see them, they look at your credit history not your fictional score.

Mine went down 91 points last month and went up 94 points this month. No material changes to my file. I should start taking bets on which way it's going to go next month. It's not something to obsess about. Your score can give you a vague idea of where you sit in the grand scheme of things - but they do tend to go up and down more than Boris Johnsons underwear.
