British gas rip off

I moved into a two bedroom bungalow in June last year which had the gas and electricity on top up card meters.
I requested them to be changed because these type of meter are usually on a higher tariff.
From June to the end of November I put about 25 pounds on gas and about 20 pounds on electric as I work full time I'm not here that often.
In November they changed the meters, both of them were still in credit, £25.03 electric and £23.78 on the gas.
In December I received a bill for £52.55 which I paid
Then in January received two bill's one was for gas £84.77 and the other for electricity £78 56 so I phoned them 2 hours later they found the credit on my card meters and said they would readjust the bill
Then another two Bill's arrived
£109.77 gas (£25.00 late payment)
and £78.56 for electric so I have just paid the lot, because I dont need the hassle and moved to utility warehouse at a fixed rate of £48 per month.
Anyone wishing to switch to British gas be aware
If you phone them, they keep passing you from department to department.
Dont get frustrated with them on the phone and raise your voice, they will put the phone down on you.

And the list goes on...
PLEASE SWITCH... THEY DON'T DESERVE CUSTOMERS.

Did you obtain new cards when you moved in? Otherwise you may well have been paying of the previous occupier's debt.
PS: I'm afraid your UW deal is not a 'fixed rate' deal at all. That's merely an estimate of your monthly usage-if you use more, your DD will eventually increase. If it doesn't you'll get a big catch-up bill.
Stop worrying about ££'s and look at the kWh rates.

You mean a fixed Direct Debit of £48? Which goes into the kitty to help pay your usage. That to me is very low?

Unless you are never there it is going to cost more than £48 per month. So assuming your not there a lot,  if only  £45 for 6 months?

Did you give Utility Warehouse actual usage or just £s

Read the meters every month and send in readings.

If smart meters now installed read the meters every month and check bills.

  • Utility warehouse is fixed rate, British gas have installed a smart meter
  • Hi,
it may be a fixed unit/sc rate, but the more you use the more you need to pay.

Still get into the habit of checking your actual bills against the smart meter to ensure all is Ok.

You may be on a fixed rate, but hopefully you do understand the more you use the more you pay.

I have a fixed rate deal of 1 mars bar per month at 80p great. But if I then eat 10 mars bars a month the price I owe is £8
