House re wiring?

Any idea how much it would cost (roughly) to rewire 45 year old 3 bedroom terraced house? Also, how long (roughly) does it take? Any advice appreciated, thank you.

Around the cost of a second-hand car.

A house wired in 1975 should not necessarily need a full rewire, but it may well need a modern RCD-protected CU, and some additional sockets in some places.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

The last second-hand car I bought was £21k, the last one I sold was £500.  So yes, I guess that range should cover it ;)

Just shows the difference between buying  and selling.

It makes a big difference whether the house is unoccupied and unfurnished, or occupied and furnished.
It also makes a difference whether or not you want them to "make good" after ripping up the floorboards and digging channels in the walls.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

It's over 45 years old. A full rewire is almost certainly a good idea.
  • I helped a mate of mine who is a electrician rewire a 3 bed detached house (built 1930's) which was undergoing a complete renovation before the owners moved in. Putting in a new ring main & sockets where required etc. It took us just over a week & it cost £2500 but that was mates rates so I would say about the same time but cost wise anywhere from £3000 to £5000 that includes cable/ switches/ sockets etc

£3k is pie-in-the-sky stuff nowadays. Obviously it will depend what exactly is going in to the installation, but £3k simply isn't very realistic.
