Hi my just over a year old integrated Beko Fridge broke down in November 2020 it can’t be fixed so I was given an uplift number to get it replaced. Due to Bexit there has been no stock available until now. When I went to use my uplift number I was told by Beko it’s run out but I have an email from them stating it’s valid until the 2nd of March 2021. Beko are now saying this is wrong and because the guy sent it from his own email address and not a Beko email they won’t acknowledge it! What can I do?

A Beko employee sent you an email from his personal email address?Funnybunny70 said:Hi my just over a year old integrated Beko Fridge broke down in November 2020 it can’t be fixed so I was given an uplift number to get it replaced. If the employee was working from home due to Covid restrictions then I suppose it's possible that this happened.Aylesbury_Duck said:A Beko employee sent you an email from his personal email address?
After all, as Hillary Clinton was found to be using her personal e-mail account for sending and receiving official State department communications, it's not too much of a long shot to find a Beko service centre employee doing the same.1 -
Yes he did send it from his personal email they know he is one of their employees but won’t acknowledge the email!0

You could always point out that an employee accessing your personal data and using it on personal emails is a breach of various pieces of data protection legislation. The fines for breaches of data protection regulations are large and the investigations can be costly and disruptive. So either the employee was acting as an official representative of the company, in which case the extension offered in the email is valid, or the employee is accessing and using protected data held by the company, in a personal capacity, in breach of the regulations, could they kindly confirm which is the case so that you can either order the replacement, or report them to the ICO, whichever is relevant.Funnybunny70 said:Yes he did send it from his personal email they know he is one of their employees but won’t acknowledge the email!7 -

You need to be very careful how you word it as saying that if they don't provide a replacement appliance then you will make an official report to the ICO could almost be interpreted as being blackmail.MattMattMattUK said:

That is why I recommended asking Beko to clarify their position, was it either the employee working in a professional capacity, where the extension would be valid, or in a personal capacity, which would be a data breach. In no way would I be saying "Give me a fridge or I will report you to the ICO".George_Michael said:

I have a Beko uplift number and couldn’t use it online for a replacement and was told by curry’s thT I could only use it where they operated a customer care department. No where close by had a customer care. I had ben without a machine for two months so I bought one in line and tried to reclaim the voucher with no success. Waiting in the telephone for 8 hours in total getting to that point was distressing, buying a replacement was Impossible through the uplift system.0
